I thought this page would be shorter but it turns out this is Also 60 panels! the backgrounds gave me a lot of pain. theres some really ugly seams of color behind certain characters and I have no idea why?

notes (sorry, theres a lot):

-marcels dream sequence was a joke I was looking forward to for a while, but once I started drawing it, I actually got so embarrassed for him that I almost cut it

-I know I say this pretty frequently, but ive put a pretty darn large clue in this page and tried not to make it as difficult to spot as I have in the past (whats the point of clues if they cant be found, right?). its hidden in plain sight, so if you read the page, you will have seen it.

-the song being sung in the flashback is diamond rings by tennis! its really pretty

-if youre thinking that jules looks older, its because im trying to draw him closer to his age. ive seen people (justifiably) mistake him as like 12 or 13, when hes actually 16 going on 17.

-on evolutions, heres some of the thoughts that went into luce and jules's designs:

species tend to follow trends upon evolution (tho obvs not everyone does!). for example, bibarel and luxray lines tend to have hair growth, crobat lines have different kinds of ears, and empoleon lines tend to have a lot of weight and height gain (emperor penguins wide and tall )

what I wanted to emphasize for jules was that hes trying hard to be mature and is aged a little past his years (hence the peacoat and new scarf look), but ultimately hes still a kid (hence the jeans and sneakers). I also wanted to reflect his in-game performance, where he was a bit of a bruiser and tended towards physical moves. (also, he's got moles, just like his dad.)

for luce, I kind of wanted to do the opposite thing. shes looking a bit more handy and gadget-y this time around because I wanted to emphasize that shes chaotic, but not stupid. shes got a lot of things going on that this design, I hope, will accentuate later. I wanted to make it clear that shes still pretty wild, so I gave her outfit the big fur bits and made her eyes a little crazier.
