Description
For: Hope you like it!!!>:00000
I did the do!! I managed to do one of them big-scale lizards with fancy background stuff! I might still feel quite far away from these professional perfect-looking fantasy pieces, but I think it's safe to say I've gotten a couple steps closer,, at least compared to my last try at a big-scale lizard
but also, damn! This was a great commission premise too!

Try it out!! If you're struggling, finish the image at the very least! Try to find where you were having the most troubles while drawing (backgrounds? composition? color? anatomy? or even the sketching itself?) and go search for information on how to improve those things separately (there's a lot of helpful videos available on youtube!)
"FZDschool" on youtube has TONS of long videos talking exactly about these kinds of big, grand concept-art-looking artpieces.
If you practice all these different components intensively, you could improve immensely in mere months!
But how I came to the place I am now, is over the span of multiple years,, simply because I only ever had the energy to learn bit by bit, slowly, collecting small pieces of information that I included in my art as time went by.
This here, was what I could do for backgrounds 7 years ago
And backgrounds is something I only ever really started to get better at in the past 1-2 years, because I was used to avoiding them,, taking easy way outs.
Just keep on drawing, and you can get there naturally! If you're having trouble drawing something,, then it's even more important to tackle that thing head-on, no matter if it looks bad or not. Challenging yourself is the surest way to improvement!

It is possible,,Β you can do good art with any kind of tool as long as you learn how to use it.
Though the number one thing a Graphic tablet offers is "pen sensitivity", which means, the lines you draw get thinner/fade in darkness depending on how hard you press down. So it feels much more identical to normal drawing than if you were using a mouse.
The last time I drew using a mouse is probably more than 10 years ago now, so I can't speak from personal experience.
What I do know is that you can find Graphic tablets online for the price of a good pair of pants www.amazon.com/Wacom-CTT460-Ba⦠Or even a cheap pair of pants once you start looking for used second-hand tablets.
Some of the brands are called "wacom" and "huion" and the one I currently use is a "wacom bamboo" that I bought for 90$.
If you don't have a drawing program yet, you can check out "medibang" or "krita", they are both totally free, and can make great art
www.youtube.com/channel/UCmWnv⦠<- here's an artist that draws entirely in Medibang, and they also use a Wacom tablet

The background and the light effects give the picture really deep and basilisk live.
NICE

Good 4 hours or so! I usually write down the original time in my sped up process videos' description; so if you see one of my dA posts that has a youtube link underneath it, you can usually find that info there :3

This is pretty damn professional if you ask me. Only thing is that some of the mountains seem "mushy". Still better than anything I could do

The weird thing is; I know exactly what you mean by that :'I My painting style is weirdly "soft"??
*gasp* I have to learn to become more edgy
but seriously though, I'm still trying to figure out how to transition from an illustrative stylized artstyle, into a concept-artist semi-realistic style,, but this piece was definitely a mile-stone into the right direction so far!

this is incredible and impressive work. i absolutely love how imaginative it is, and i love the small details in the creature. the whole in its wing, how it seems that things are falling off it, even the curvature of the spine. i'm sure you don't need me to tell you how talented you are but please let me congratulate you and wish you all the best as you pursue your artistic path. this is excellent work, thank you for sharing.

I looked at it and thought "Wow, great picture," then, by accident my finger slipped, clicked the image and brought it to its full size and then it was, "Crap, is that a village in the bottom left?? My gods, but that thing is *huge*!" Those little details really helped to set the piece, in my opinion, and really did it justice. Excellent work!
