Description
Character I have had in my head for over seven years and one that has gone over so many recreations its riducless. This is his current 'manga' incarnation and this isn't a deviation because its not fully shaded and I was hoping to color this with photoshop at a later date. I'm putting this up since I have the time and I am rather proud of myself after practicing the wonderful art of drawing heads over and over from my 'How to Draw Manga: basics and beyond' for an entire night before hand. I couldn't show more of the sword since the character is the primary image and I want being able to fight without it as part of his impression :evil:Any way, enjoy it, hate it, learn from it, critique it, whatever take a look at it for a bit.

It's a cool design. Hair makes me think of a very young Heihachi Mishima. Sword's particularly interesting - fitting to his name. So what are his colors going to be?

Hair is a bright scarlet, eyes orange, skine tone is probably caucasian or a deep grey, I'm juggling the idea around. The jacket is black with a red sheen. The right shoulder pad is bone while the other is chrome. The problem with his character is that there are aspects of him that are terribly cliche. Red hair/ fire based power, wears black, spikey hair, big sword, some kind of inner demon conflict, tragic past, etc.
As they say, everything done has been done before. All these aspects have been tweaked to be 'somewhat' unique to him but it still feels cookie cutter at times. Finding that perfect balance is harder then it looks while also keeping originality intact. I came up with the idea of making his sword actually sealed in his body when he's not using it as to avoid the scabard issue. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

You know, the word "cliche" here could be exchanged for "symbolic". There's a reason those colors are oft used for those purposes, so you shouldn't feel self-conscious about using them. If you do want another suggestion though, I could see him with black hair, a darker complexion and gold eyes with either still a black jacket or a red jacket with black pants. The overall design is cool though - I wouldn't change it too much. You should make a finished copy when you get inspired to do so; it should kick ass.

I started something just like that a couple years ago but never finished it since I first made it when I didn't have my oh so wonderful tablet (using the mouse sucks and it ethier takes incredible paitence or skill to use it for art ). I should probably get around to giving it another go. I've been tied up with this monster compendium thing that I MUST GET DONE. I hate leaving things hanging
