Description
"Yet another missing person has been reported early this morning. Richard Knox did not return home last thursday and after several house calls went unanswered, his relatives found him missing and called the police. Richard Knox was a prosecutor in the recent investigation into the mob believed to be working through the local docks. Scotland Yard announced that his disappearance is 'suspicious' and is being investigated. Richard Knox seems to be yet another victim in a string of disappearances that have plagued the English Channel." - Local British NewsSo yeah, this is Tony's Hybrid Form. This kinda illustrates that Mutatis KCELL's are decidely fugly in how they manifest their abilities. What Tony gets in his Hybrid Form is basically amphibious adaption, increased size, durability and phenomenal strength. His sense of smell is heightened and he can begin detecting electromagnetic fields. Slow to get into it but once he does it's mass carnage. They don't find bodies in the English Channel...because he eats them.

These days I think the body structure is just a little...awkward around the head region but this is 'generally' what I'm going for.

I don't even mind the awkwardness that much...makes it look even more unnatural, like something that shouldn't exist (but in a cool, Lovecraftian abomination way and not a terrible, 'you need to practice anatmoy' way)

That's what I thought at first but when you imagine this thing in the water, the strain and inmobility of the neck might be an issue. I've haven't drawn this from since though so I might just need to practice it a bit more to see how it could function.

Well, my feedback is horribly overdue BUT HERE IT IS ANYWAYS!
This is pretty much excellent. I mean, damn! Your handle of backgrounds and lighting still amazes me. Also, Tony's hybrid form is justifiably horrifying.

Years of knowing my tools and always experimenting get's me some neat results sometimes. The only gripe I have with Tony's Hybrid Form at this point is that he might not have full range of motion where his neck is concerned but that's alright. He's not in it all the time and his full form will be more suited for air and sea train wreck style manuevars. In this one he's more like a man eating tank with legs.

Those little suspenders are just adorable.
I like how he's still limp-wristed, even as he smashes a machinegun in half. It illustrates his true strength with how casually he's doing this.
In many cases, I'd say a design like this is too human for me to really find scary, but something about seeing it in action lie this just makes it work. The dopey, yet malevolent smile, the beady little eyes, the enormous bulk against the tiny little head... It has a very predatory, very unnaturally natural feel about it. Lovecraftian, I'd say.
Gonna have to advise you on the human though. He looks kinda goofy, but some people might interpret him as a rather... touchy caricature. I mean fuck, if people can accuse robots from space or mystical ponies of being racist....

Oh this is just the 'half way point'. The full form is when things get utterly beastly and completely nightmarish. Here he's still somewhat coeherent and identifiable, that's intentional.
As for the secondary character, meh. I was trying something new with a part of the picture that was wearing on my paitence. At least his lips aren't red lol. I realize that a night scene probably causes that old joke to pop up but lighting is lighting.

RenDragonClaw In reply to StarGamerWorld [2011-07-27 02:56:53 +0000 UTC]
Well no. As I've written about Mutatis before, this particular type of KCELL enters their altered states slowly. It is a physically slow and grueling process that as Tony has proven, does not entirely sink back to total normalcy after use.
The background of this scene, and many scenes Tony is involved in, is that his opponents think they are dealing with just a big angry british man. He gets more and more monstrous in reaction to outside stimulis and about half way there we get this: Shark Man. Unlike Anthromorphics like Shinji, Mutatis don't have a seamless blend of features from their patron kaiju. It's like comparing a vanilla swirl to a plate of two pies smashed together. Tony's Hybrid Form looks awkward and somewhat painful because that's exactly what it is. He can't even look straight up without tilting his whole body upright. In Full Form the monstrous shark mouth Dryton is known for will fix this as the full weight of Dryton's influence is brought to bare but this is by no means an enjoyable process.
It's one of those 'oh god I can't believe I'm doing this again' kind of powers. Blessed with Suck about sums it up. So yes, it is more horror inducing than the 'Kamen Guyver', 'Blood Avatar', and 'Death Naga' like forms of the other Apocalypse Bringer KCELLS.

Being with the other Apocalypse Bringers helps him regain a bit of control but thankfully he rarely has to go that far. Mutatis are a severe threat even when not in an altered state.

Agreed. I like how it'll be more RPG-ish. Of course I need to play it myself first before I can actually judge it.
...And for that matter, why the hell did they change Famine and Pestilence to Fury and Strife? That seemed rather unneeded...
👍: 0 ⏩: 1
RenDragonClaw In reply to StarGamerWorld [2011-07-27 16:49:20 +0000 UTC]
From what I read from the article on the first game, the developers felt that the names Pestilence and Famine would not be cool games for fighting game characters. They sited that as their reason for switching it up. They felt that people just wouldn't be attracted to playing as those kind of characters.
Thing is, the white rider has also been known as Conquest which is a flat out awesome name for a character lol. Famine is just fine though maybe something like Plague would work. They really didn't think that decision through I think.
👍: 0 ⏩: 1
StarGamerWorld In reply to RenDragonClaw [2011-07-27 17:09:01 +0000 UTC]
Ah right. I agree they didn't put enough thought into it. I do often forget though about Conquest being an actual name, I'm sure they forgot as well. Now I think the developers might be planning a third game with 4 player co-op (cause the second game more or less takes place the same time as the first), so they wanted to try and make it so that people won't be hugging after the ones with cooler names (like Death and War). Again though, I don't think they needed to change the names... The white rider is also known as Famine, right? (seeing as IIRC none of your Apocalypse Bringers are Famine, I presume that Famine is also called Conquest)

RenDragonClaw In reply to StarGamerWorld [2011-07-27 23:53:15 +0000 UTC]
Red Rider= War
Pale Rider= Death
White Rider= Pestilence -later- Conquest
Black Rider= Famine
The riders appear on earth in the order of White, Red, Black, Pale, then all of hell follows suit.

StarGamerWorld In reply to RenDragonClaw [2011-07-27 23:56:01 +0000 UTC]
Ah, got it. So Dryton is Famine? IIRC he seemed more like Conquest to me.
Also for that order, is that how it's like in KCELL as well? If so, I'd hate to see the hell that followed them. Unless... Uh oh
👍: 0 ⏩: 1
RenDragonClaw In reply to StarGamerWorld [2011-07-28 01:20:18 +0000 UTC]
Beelzebub doubles as Pestilence AND Conquest. His larva stage is Pestilence while his adult fly stage is Conquest. The abilties of both forms reflect this as I decided to combine them that way.
Dryton's ability focuses a lot on moisture and his manipulation thereof. So yes, Dryton's theme is of the black horseman Famine.
Apocalypse Bringers are so grouped and named for a reason lol. You put all four in an area together and shit get's suitably apocalyptic. But no, the order doesn't follow revelations percisly. Shimaku is 'disturbed' first, the entire world gradually follows suit. Beelzebub starts munching around next, then Marez breaks out of his den and finally Dryton rises from the ocean upon being accosted by a precautionary naval force. It KCELL order is Death, Pestilence, followed shortly after by Conquest, War, and then Famine. This is because Shimaku is the main kaiju of KCELL and then it TRIES to follow natural order. Also Dryton is the eldest and physically powerful of the four, he's not something you want just floating around.
As for hell....uuuuummmm maybe .

StarGamerWorld In reply to RenDragonClaw [2011-07-28 01:47:00 +0000 UTC]
Ah right then. I do have trouble imagining how the four Apocalypse Bringers are the heroes/good guys/protagonists, considering their roles lol.
Um also... Might I take a guess about this "hell" that follows The Apocalypse Bringers? My idea might actually be slightly different than you think.
