I'm currently working on Chespin and Fennekin's lines at the moment, but it will be a bit longer before those are finished. I still have two exams that I should be revising for and lots of errands to run. Thought I'd upload the Froakie line since I finished it rather than waiting until they were all done.
As per usual, you can find my other realistic PokΓ©mon sketches and drawingsΒ here.
I based these guys on a mix of Poison Arrow frogs and Asian Horned Frogs. I shifted Greninja's anatomy a little so that it could even stand up on its hind legs at all, and tried to retain that angular look that it has.
Anyway back to exam revision (sigh). These were done with Photoshop CS5 and a Wacom Cintiq 24 HD in a couple of hours.

There's some interesting biological theories behind Greninja's scarf tongue. Although I prefer bubbles it's not something to hate Gamefreak over.

I don't know. Ask Gamefreak, they designed it that way to make it look 'Ninja-like.'
Someone said it could twist of the nerve endings and predators would peck at the bright fleshy tongue, leaving it to snap off (much like a geckos tail) and Greninja gets to live another day

Seriously? They wrap their giant tongues around their necks and leave a good three feet hanging behind them for some guy to just place his foot on their back and PULL! If that don't count as inviting someone to kill you, then I don't know what does.

Yes, I did partly base Greninja on the Horned Toad.

my version used a bit of megophrys because of the origami like head....and the splendid tree frog for the ninja like quality...where'd you get your selections from?Β

Asian horned frogs for the head also, and poison arrow frogs for the colouring with some obvious changes in anatomy
