Description
Previously:Hints of warriors' armor sparkled through the leaves, and just as Khione discovered the source of the intrusion, she was simultaneously found. A group of beautiful, strong warrior women regaling hunter's attire formed a semi-circle before Khione. These were no ordinary women - they were skilled hunters blessed by Artemsis, seeking truth and justice in the wisdom granted by Athena, made strong and powerful by Gaea, and virtuous in the love granted to them by Aphrodite. Before the mare stood the infamous Amazons, sisters blessed by the gods, who are dedicated to the peace that believe is every person's right – uniting all people, sexes, races and creeds with equality, compassion, reason and love.
And just as she recognized them for who they were, the Amazon's recognized Khione as a Cavitto, a breed of horse created by Zeus as a special steed of the gods. The sisters lowered their weapons, and stood in wonder, taking great delight in Khione's presence.
Khione would never let a mere mortal approach her, but the Amazons were not mere mortals, and had been created by the gods as well. So as a dark haired woman approached slowly, with humility and respect, Khione relaxed and allowed their leader to stroke her nose.
"Truly, you are magnificent… and must have fallen from Olympus' Stables directly," she said as she reached up to pat Khione.
The girls spoke softly and quickly, wanting to shower one of the god's magical creatures with love and respect, and believing that such an act of compassion to one of the god's own steeds could only help them in a future time of need. In an instant, with unanimous decision, the sisters offered Khione transportation back to the Island of Themyscira, where she would be able to live in peace and comfort, with purity of spirit, hidden away from the hostile world of mankind.

Oooo, she met humans already! I love this plot you introduced!
The warrior lady is so cool looking; I love the armor and all the details of her outfit.
Khione looks beautiful as well - well of course - and I love how you made her looking wary but curious at the same time.

Yeppers... my crazy self decided that I need to keep practicing humans, and what better way than to throw my mare amidst the Amazon warriors?!? I may regret that decision later, LOL, but am looking forward to drawing her on some adventures with the warrior women. I want to be able to draw Khione on Themyscira, exploring the magical island with the Amazons, maybe even getting some top notch Amazon tack (yeah for designing stuff) and partaking in adventures with the women.
So many ideas, now I just need time to draw/explore it all.
Thanks so much hun.

You might regret that later but what an amazing opportunity to draw all the cool armors and crazy hairstyles! And of course designing Amazon tack is something to look forward!
I wish there will be suddenly more time to draw next year.
You're very welcome!

The very first thing I noticed about this, was Khione's wonderful body language! I don't know how much of it was intentional, but the subtle things about her - like that initial wariness before she allows the Amazon to approach - really shine through in the pose. Her shoulder is really turned towards the viewer, and the Amazon, which is a defensive thing, and its wonderful, because the way her left foreleg also stands at a very slight forward angle, it looks like she's rocked her weight back onto her right shoulder (the right foreleg), which is something you will see many horses do if they're uncertain - they lean away from the threat, often just as subtly as shifting their weight, and its such a faint thing here, but so well done. Then on top of that, you have the pricked ears, soft/lowered neck and the way her nose reaches out, which all counteracts it with that slight curiosity as she realises what she's facing and relaxes.
I'll shut up eventually, but I just adore the quiet play of body language in this so much
Moving on, though - beautiful manes and tails as always, and I like the yellowish highlights, as they really tie her in to the background. For me, personally, though, I think the very rich, sharp greens of the background and the yellows of the highlights are a tad strong, when coupled with Khione's white coat. White can be strangely easy to overpower, but because the image was presumably chosen *because* of the sharp colours and strong sun, it can be tricky to balance it. It doesn't look bad at all, but for me, the banner background does just have a bit too much power against the characters at the foreground. I hope that makes some kind of sense.
I still really love this for all the little interactions going on, though Beautifully done!

Thank you so much! I always love and appreciate your comments (and am slowly making a dent in my long list that need replies).
I wish I could take credit for the body language, or at least say that it was intentional, but I just found a ref I wanted to use and went with that. Reading your description, I'm like, "oh yeah, that is actually what I was going for," but sadly didn't put any conscious thought into that. So I'll just have to chuck the body language up to a good ref.
And the background, I wish I could say I put some thought into that... but truthfully, I just Google'd tropical backgrounds, and took the first panoramic shot I saw. You are very right, the lighting/colors are very sharp/strong. I guess that'll teach me to put more thought into my decisions... or change the contrast/saturation next time. And I agree about the green highlights being very strong on her coat. Definitely something to practice and play with in the future.
And people, why are they so darn hard for me to draw... ah well, practice makes perfect (or something like that, yeah?).
Thank you so so much for that great feedback!

You're welcome ^^ No problem at all.
Haha, I wondered if some of that body language wasn't specifically intended. Much of my own art happens by happy accident XD. Still, however it worked out, it was just wonderful to see. I'm glad I could explain it as you imagined it, though
Good to know what I said about the background made sense for you. But hey; its a learning curve and you always gain, even from the smallest things that go wrong
I hardly even commented on your Amazon (too bowled over with the body language XD). Looking again, though, your human skills are far from bad, and if you struggled too much, it doesn't show The shading is really good and really makes her three dimensional, not to mention the detail in the costume is stunning. If anything, the only thing that I can think for feedback is the proportions. Human proportions can be really awkward, and they're probably one of the things I struggle with most (beyond faces). Its just something that will improve gradually the more you draw ^^.

Hahaha, drawing humans is about as enjoyable as going to the dentist for me. I know that is something that will only get better and come more naturally over time, but ... bleh. So I'm glad that you don't think my human skills are "bad." I figured if I chose a storyline that involved more human drawings (since my Cavittos haven't really interacted with humans otherwise), then it would just force me to keep practicing.
Why do I do these things to myself?
And faces and proportions both... kill me now.

Ouch; that bad? XD (For me, the dentist has improved dramatically, because going to an orthodontist for braces is far more painful).
Your human skills are definitely not bad - there's plenty worse - and at least you recognise that improvement only comes if you work at it (which some people fail to notice). Don't worry - you do this to yourself because you know it will make you better What doesn't kill you makes you stronger and all that
Doesn't mean I don't feel your pain. Sometimes I won't want to draw a human for anything because I just can't get them to come out right.

Hahaha, stupid humans. Yeah, drawing them is pretty much like the dentist... but improvement does come with practice. So maybe that's a good goal for me this year (more humans paired with my equine drawings).

Sounds like a solid plan, there - if you keep just slotting them in, you'll start to see them improve ^^

Hahaha, remind me why I chose a storyline with humans?!? Oh well, the Amazons are amazing, and it will be good for me to practice drawing more people (now, if only I can do them some justice). Thanks so much luv! And thanks for the too.
