I got the inspiration for this artwork from the haiku "Night terrors" by Christopher

vertigo's nausea flares at the revelation:
i am immobile; the world shifts around me.
i am some omni-impotent axis mundi; a world
tree with roots depending from the serpent's
fetid corpse and with bared branches no longer
able to support the heaven's yawning maw.
basho erred;
the clouds move the wind.
hear their dirge.

It's like looking at 2 completely different pieces at once.
Must admit my eyes instantly focused on the bottom half...but that may be cause I am partial to Ravens & shades of blue. But then I see the rocket ships, the Knight's helmet with banners or feathers (which signifying honors won) & the crescent moon & they too all call me.
I did notice that on the flip side the raven by day is a wolf, the moon is replaced with the sun, we've gone back in time with the sword awaiting a champion to take up the quest.
One thing about your artwork, Dmitry is it never bores me & always intrigues me, 'cause though it retains some of the same style/ quality of your previous works it is NEVER the same.

I love the "winter" side of this picture, honestly the idea of a monochrome image came to me a little later, in the original idea I wanted to do a colored image. Maybe I will upload the fragment of this work on DA, it looks interesting without a top part.
The knife/dagger is a symbol of transformation, in the Slavic mythology a person who wants to turn into a werewolf jumps over a tree stump with a knife but it should not be interpreted literally in this work of course.

Even if people are drawn to the bottom half more, it's best to see this artwork as a WHOLE.
I can picture this piece done on a large canvas hanging in a museums someday.
Had never heard about the "jump over a knife to become a werewolf" myth. Why would ANYONE want to become a werewolf? Shaving would definitely be a bitch. (LOL)

Witchcraft is a kind of power. In the past, people believed that a witch or sorcerer can turn into different animals or even a burning wheel, I remember some interesting stories of my grandmother about witches in villages, they are creepy.
