This is an entry for 's monthly challenge. July's challenge theme was wind.

At first I wanted to try to make a tornado, but some rough sketches showed me that extensive research was needed. Instead, since my last animation (to which I also made a tutorial ) included some frame-by-frame waves that I thought were a bit too jumpy and because I thought I needed some , I decided to let the wind turn the pages of a book. Because books.

I filmed a book over and over again, until I had something that looked like could loop it after vectorising it. What do you think? Did it work?
All of the digitising/tracing/vectorising and the animation was done in .

No solid lines in this.

I'm... not sure what your point is? Yes, the final animation has no actual lines

This one was more of a trace. Filmed a book in the wind, chose some frames, redrew it.

Ahh I see. I was wondering how you did it so realistically!

The book moves so fluidly that it almost becomes real.

Thanks. I should hope so, the study is based on a real book.

Und ich mach's so wie du auch:

Das ist definitiv mein Liebling von deiner Gallery! Richtig gut! Und das mit GIMP und Video - echt 'ne runde Sache!

Fascinating work! Both as art and programing simply stunning

Thank you! *shoots phaser and stuns*
I'm not sure what you mean by "programming", I didn't code anything for this and I traced everything by hand (digitally). Is this about the topic of the image or maybe about my mind?

JWA2277 In reply to RetSamys [2013-07-28 03:32:48 +0000 UTC]

I was speaking of the image! So, all is scanned in and traced.

What is the animation program?

Could anyone do this?

I will not ever comment on your mind It is already impressed me. I would love to know what other subjects you would be willing to discuss!

PS( Ow that hurt!, What did you shoot me for?) I will assume that was friendly fire, after all I don't were red shirts!

In no way did I mean this to be hurtful!

It isn't scanned. I filmed a book in the wind on my balcony. Took a long time until I had the footage I wanted. Then, I traced and animated it with the GIMP.

In theory, anyone could do this. It takes some practice and some understanding of how the animation will work - especially if you have to guess what is what half of the time because of really bad footage like the one I had. Of course it's a lot easier than drawing it from scratch, but it's not as easy as running a script over the image (if you want to do that, you should be an artist in another way: it takes a good photographer - with extra knowledge - to provide good footage).
This was nothing more than a study. That's why I traced my clip. It was to teach me about smoothness concerning animation - I felt like the last frame-by-frame animation was a bit rough...

Oh, OK. I thought that maybe you were referring to one of the most efficient computers in the world (with significant flaws, of course): my brain.
Other subjects... hm... let's see... definition(-s/-lessness) of God/gods, Santa Clause and his versions, weirdnesses of English as a language (maybe not a good idea, I wouldn't have much to contribute), efficiency of alphabets, your profile picture, the penny question and the plausibility of its realisation, musical genres, PR for small artists for outside of dA, sandwiches... do you have any ideas?

Love the reference. Why would I kill a redshirt? They're going to die anyway!

Very nice all right up my alley, so I would start with what I am not Failure with (BEING a coin collector {particular favorite the Lincoln cent}), what is “the penny question and the plausibility of its realization”.

My work I with a Hindi Cam camcorder, I just trying to see what it can do real life photography. I have not learned how to cut the footage and extract individual shots or other editing would be happy for tutorials or program suggestions. Also writing (admittedly grammar and spelling are a problem)

In the waking world away from DA, I have a variety of jobs, not computer related. Everything from home repair to sheet metal mechanics, welding, and industrial AG (farmer), But my best hobby beyond DA is Bee Keeping! Or my odd take ”Bee Wrangling”

I stay very busy, so most of my work here is from 5pm to 1am or weekend (when something ha not blown up). What is your trade sir, or are you retired? Not to insult, I would assume you are over 21?

The penny question is about getting rid of the penny because 1) the production-cost-to-value distribution is inefficient and 2) it is too rarely used.
Several countries have already done this: #trustwikipedia
Now, the real question is, will politicians (in the USA) get around to solving that problem of money being lost?

Tutorials... well, I don't know any but I can look for some or make some if you tell me what you are looking for. But other than making a writing a German tutorial, I can't help you with grammar/orthography/style/etc.

The real world... I don't like giving away personal information publicly. Here's what I feel I can tell you (and everyone else): I am 21 years old (which technically makes me older than 21 years). I work at a local children and youth library and I am a student/apprentice.

Bee keeping! Now that's something!!! I would love to hear more about that.

The penny Question; against removal: reason is equal cost to print a twenty or 100! I am sorry, I like pennies, But I am antiquated, and analog! In time, money will be digital any way!

I appreciate knowing your  age, I too hate giving this out! but do appreciate it, I thought you were  50! Neither art nor intelligence are bounded by age!

on beekeeping: Check out my gallery! I posted a very long FYI their, "amazing bee": I or II but for specifics feel free to aask!

~~Revise and extend of original thought~~ Penny question: as a coin collector and the relative of some accountant there is an additional reason why paper money might not go away and in particular, the penny!

Inflation control: An economic concept widely used and supported by Franklin D. Roosevelt, in particular the collection of tamps!

By collecting and removing stamp and coins from the market the overall inventory on the federal books remains artificially high, and in the case of the penny... it I easily lost, discarded and destroyed! Without regard or thought, by the millions (of pennies, don’t get me wrong it does add up) because of low value!

Don't believe me! How many jars of pennies are in your house?

The theory is still in practice as the actual reason for Bill Clinton changing the security measures on the 50-5 dollar bill (not the supposed counterfeiting by Iraq, if this was true the older legal tender would have been bard form use which it is not!) and the continuation of the fifty state quarter program by the US Mint now extended to the national wonders and parks!

Thus, once again removing millions (of dollars), from circulation! The Mint dose admits to keeping an estimate of actual holdings in coin collections, but has a vested interest in keeping the number low!

(You would tell your boss, you misplaced billions of $ in coins every year?)

wow neat . I wonder have you thought about using a falling feather  as it lands in  the book? the left it as a book mark then the as the pages turn? sorry it was just a thought. that or just writing with the  feather in the book ? just some ideas for you. That is if you wanted or need some ideas.

RetSamys In reply to munkfeavor76 [2013-07-25 16:23:48 +0000 UTC]

Thanks.

Ideas are always welcome! In this case, your idea wouldn't have worked very well with what I was doing. There was quite some wind when I made this, a feather wouldn't have behaved the way I would have liked it to.
But it would have been nice to have something like that in an animation, because it's an impressive looping technique... hm...
