Who's hungry? I am. Time for some more colour in my Gallery!

This took way more effort than I expected it to.

Sorry, but that looks very different from what I do.
I'll also hide your comment, because I don't feel like this is the place to spread the message. Sorry again.

Do you know anybody else I could ask?

You might want to have a look at animation Groups. Maybe ask them if you can write a Blog entry. If you have no other starting point, you can have a look at the Groups I'm in . You can also ask in the dA Forum.
Beyond that, I don't know if paying an animator is an option for you, there are probably people looking for paid work.

question, why do you put a fork in bread?

RetSamys In reply to pikimini [2018-05-19 14:20:46 +0000 UTC]

Oh, just to have an excuse for why the bread doesn't slide all over the place while cutting it. I know, it's a stretch, but animation-wise, it's one of the simplest things to add.

I could have put a hand there to hold it in place, but I don't have to tell you why I didn't do that.

This is really nice. Makes me hungry too. K, I read your comment about not knowing how to add texture to the moving parts of an animation. Here are my two cents.

  • The first and second chunks (especially the second) peel off, which is a huge contributor to it looking soft and cakey. You know what I mean? It bends as it's cut. Bread, when you cut a chunk that thick, and even when you cut a thin slice if the crust is hard, is much stiffer.*
  • Bread needs to be sawn, not simply sliced.* The first piece was sawn, then all pieces following were sliced straight down, which makes it look cake-soft. Also, bread knives are jagged.* And have a curved top corner.* The jagged edge can be used to show the sawing action even when the bread obscures the far end of the knife.
  • The fork should meet with resistance when going through the crust. Rather than one smooth gliding motion, it should slow on impact. Physics.

And last thing to add, other than the fork being quite undersized, is that crumbs would make the entire thing more realistic. You have enough frames, wouldn't be too hard to add some crumbs falling. Unless you're doing your thing where your entire animation process is a lot more complicated than mine. But to me it seems that you've got a really good, simple animation style, smooth motions, and what you're lacking is the nuances of motion and the fine details that top everything off.

Now to get something to eat.

* = You should know this, you're German.

One super sharp knife and way too many frames for your own good.

Hahaha. Yeah. But... it's only 10 frames per second! Ah, I have no sense of proportion.

Maybe try shorter, snappier more detailed animations? Seems like you've only done extremely frame by frame advanced movement tests up until now

I think I might try that. Thanks for keeping me pushing.

Looking nice and smooth
Texture and softness seems more like it's some kind of a sweet, cake like thing, which makes it seem more delicious
It's the most mundane of actions that take the most effort xD

Oh no, you of all people commented on one of my animations! And you 'ed it.

Thank you so much.

Yeah, I noticed halfway through that it was going to be a bit... floppier.

I have no idea how I would add texture to the moving parts of an animation. It's the most mundane of actions that take the most effort xDOh, so true!

PowerOfSin In reply to RetSamys [2018-05-19 08:59:02 +0000 UTC]

Don't mention it
I more meant to the texture of kind of... the material itself. Like, when you cut bread, the crust is crunchy, so there are usually crumbs going all over the place and the knife has a bit less even cutting speed. You also usually end up kind of crushing it a bit, so it doesn't end as stiff once it is done, so rolling off is rather rare, unless it's really fresh and you have a really sharp knife.
If it was baked and sweet, it would be a lot more even and without that many crumbs like you did there. The fork also kind of gives it that context, since you would usually need to hold bread with a hand, but I can see why it would be problematic in this view
But then again, bread is prepared differently everywhere, so, I may be ignorant xD

Thanks!

You know, I wasn't particularly hungry while making this (well, not hungrier than usual), but after finishing it and after submitting it to dA, I went for snacks big time both times.
