Description
I'm excited to announce that I will be showing new work with Arch Enemy Arts in their upcoming exhibition, 'The Royals .' 'The Royals' features 18 local and international artists tasked with creating contemporary portraits of traditional occupations and positions from the Middle Ages. My contribution is a nod to Leonardo DaVinci's "Lady with an Ermine" and features real-life farmer, butcher, and author Meredith Leigh . Entitled simply, 'The Butcher,' this watercolor measures 16 x 12 in. and is painted on paper mounted and sealed on wood panel.
Artists participating in this show include:
Alex Garant , Caitlin Hackett , Carly Janine Mazur , Chris Leib , Chris Seaman , Craww , David Seidman , Fabio D'Aroma , Gustavo Rimada , Heather McLean , Jared Tuttle , Jason Hernandez , Julianna Menna , Rachael Bridge , Rodrigo Borges , Tom Bagshaw , and Wendy Ortiz .

First things first, congratulations and good look on the exhibit. With that aside I must say that it took me a moment to recognize this piece as one of yours, but the minute I saw her face and her hands, how detailed the skin tone was, how expressive she looks even with such subtle gestures I knew your hand was behind this, great work as usual.

Thanks so much Tordo ! It was a real challenge to strip away the environment and focus solely on the portrait. But I had so much fun getting lost in all the nuances of her face and costume... it's definitely different but I might bring some of this approach into my upcoming work. We'll see.

You're welcome! It worked well here due to all the detail on her costume as you said. I would be interesting to see what can you do on other pieces.

I'm planning on doing a few "portraits" in my upcoming work. I put "portraits" in quotations because while I'm going to remove the setting and focus on the personality of the figure, it won't be as straightforward as this.

Thank you so much. It was fun to focus on just a portrait for a change.
