Knuckles shuffled his feet as he stood waiting at the train station for the evening, 6 o' clock shuttle to arrive. He glanced at the clock on the wall, sighing heavily as he saw he had five more minutes to wait for the train. He began to pace along the station platform, holding two roses in his hand, thoughts racing through his head as he waited anxiously for the train.

He had not seen her for so long; a year had gone by since he had seen her beautiful face, her bright emerald eyes; a year had passed since he felt the warmth of her embrace, and the tenderness of her kiss. It had been so long, and at long last, Knuckles was finally going to see Amy again. He was becoming increasingly anxious, and as he waited on the verge of a breakdown for the train to arrive, he thought back to the last time he saw her.

He had just had his eighteenth birthday, and what was supposed to be a joyful day for them both, quickly turned into sorrow. After they had spent the day at the beach, they went to Twinkle Park that evening; happy as they could be, that is, until Amy told Knuckles the bad news.

Sitting together sharing an ice cream cone, Amy told Knuckles she had to go away for awhile, to a distant town and city...that she had family there, who were going through a hard time. She wouldn't say exactly what was wrong, or where she was going, but that she would be gone a long time, meaning they'd be separated for awhile.

It was hard enough after the first two weeks, but as the weeks turned into months, Knuckles felt his heart slowly breaking. He knew that no matter how much time or distance passed between them, their love would always hold true, but even so, every day without Amy was like a lifetime for him.

Finally, she sent word that she would be coming home at last, and it was on this train that she would arrive; finally the six o' clock train pulled in. The echidna looked up at the crowd of people running off the train, and at last, the two saw each other. Dropping her suitcases, Amy ran to Knuckles and the two embraced each other tightly, both on the verge of tears.

"Oh Knuckles, I missed you so much! I never thought I'd be gone for so long. It was so horrible! I'm just glad to be home!" Amy cried.

Knuckles stroked her hair and said, "I know Amy; it was hell on me too. But, you're back now, and I'm so happy, you don't know how much." He presented her with the roses he had, and as she smiled, kissed him on the cheek, and smelled them, he looked at her, noticing how she had grown up over the past year.

"Wow Amy...you changed...a little. It really has been awhile; you look more grown up than when I last saw you," he started. The two locked eyes, smiled and laughed. As he hugged her he said, "Are you tired at all?"

Amy laughed, shook her head, and whispered, "No, but this headband is awfully tight now...it's hurting my head."

The echidna backed up from her, and chuckled softly, saying, "Well, you've grown up some Amy, and well, maybe it's time you styled your hair a bit differently to match." He walked up to her, and gently removed the red hairband she wore, looking at her once more. He went on to say, "I love you Amy...no matter how many months passed, I knew our love would never break, and now I'm just glad we're back together again."

Amy giggled softly and said, "Hee hee, oh Knuxie, that's what's so special about our love; we'll always be together no matter what; there will always be that lasting promise that our love will bind us together for eternity.

The two then leaned intoa kiss, Knuckles putting his arm around her and hugging her tightly; framed against the setting sun, the two were a shining example of love's lasting promise, one that would never be broken, or fade away.

Okay, there's no background or anything, but that little short story describes this picture; I wanted to do another kissing picture of them, (more of a closeup than "Gotta Love KnuxAmy") and this story just popped into my head to go along with it
