Description
This was referenced...a good friend of mine blazeshadow did this lovely picture for Mother's Day. I immediately thought of my character Val and her little babies, so I thought I'd try drawing them referencing that picture.

You can see the similarities...Val is obviously angled a bit differently, plus I added her baby girl, Eva, since I just couldn't leave her out.

Val has...well there's a lot of feels in her story. Basically her parents were drug addicts...she had a grandfather that cared and searched for her despite never finding her. She went to live in a brothel, but it was more than just a brothel. The madame took in young girls and kept them safe, never forcing them to actually "work" although she got her funds to take care of them from the older girls offering services ranging from strip teases to the heavier stuff. Val grows up, meeting an older boy named Rin Nitori when she is 14, he being 17. He finds her lost in the middle of a snowstorm in the city and takes her to his place, where they become friends, bonding while the snow storm rages. He asks her to live with him, and they get even...closer. She agrees, but wants to go back and say goodbye to her friends.

Rin takes her back, and heads home to get things ready for her. Before they can reunite though, a much older man in his mid twenties comes to the brothel. He's an echidna named Cliff. He sees Val and take immediate interest in her. He hides it though, offering to just get her out of that life, calling attention to how rich he is, insisting she'll live a life of luxury. He tells Val the same, only he promises a wealth of money to the brothel, meaning the girls can all be supported without having to "work" anymore. Though Val loved Rin, she agrees, in the back of her mind thinking about going just so the girls can get the money, then perhaps running away to reunite with Rin after a few days.

Cliff immediately shows his true colors. He pays the brothel only it's much, much less than was promised. Instead of taking care of Val he immediately drugs her. He plans only to use her to breed children, full blooded echidnas, wanting girls so he can start up his own... "services" He performs medical examinations on her and discovers, to his horror, she's actually pregnant. This is obviously Rin's child. He removes the baby, a little girl from her, and does it while keeping her heavily sedated, so by the time she awakens, she knows she is pregnant, but not about that baby. Instead, it's Cliff's child, their first daughter, Lilith.

He keeps her on a short leash, so she is unable to run away and try to find Rin. When Lilith is born she's fully aware of Cliff's plans for her, and so she manages to get Lilith away, leaving her on the steps of a church. Cliff is furious, beating her severely when she refuses to reveal Lilith's location. Unknown to her, Rin winds up finding her, by now with a new girl, a woman named Ally, who eventually gives him two children, Reiyuu and Anita. He doesn't recognize Lilith as being Val's child, though in his heart he still loved and missed her. He and Ally take care of Lilith for awhile before they take her to an orphanage, the reasoning being perhaps Lilith's real mother and father might someday find her.

But Val never wants Lilith to be found. Cliff, despite being angry marks Lilith up as a loss. He imprisons Val in his mansion, never letting her leave, and her torture begins. She's immediately gotten pregnant again...now, bear in mind in my story pregnancies only last five months since...these creatures aren't humans lol It can be different for them. This allows for her to conceive at least twice a year, and since she is not found until Lilith is 22, that's at least 44 times...she conceives a child.

This is where it gets devastating.

Out of all of those times Val has six more girls, and five boys. In order; Angeline, Chad, Tiffany, Clyde, Lucille, Georgia, Vaan, Vicky, Dakota, Valerie, and Josiah. Out of those, Angeline is imprisoned in a different part of the mansion, Cliff planning to use her if Val ever becomes useless. The four older boys, Chad, Clyde, Vaan, and Dakota, are useless to him, and are imprisoned beneath the mansion. The other five girls, Tiffany, Lucille, Georgia, Vicky, and Valerie, are taken elsewhere, imprisoned in a penthouse, never allowed to leave it. They're all used to "service" his high paying clientele. Mostly the two older girls have it the worst by the time they're rescued, the younger three used as little more than play toys...although Cliff had personally broken in Georgia shortly before they're rescued.

Little Vicky, suffers horrific damage when one client goes too far and uses her in a way he hadn't paid for. Cliff is only annoyed at her, however, and she has to undergo horrific surgery which she isn't sedated for. She's probably the one traumatized the most.

Angeline eventually gets murdered. She has a fight with Cliff and there's a physical altercation, which ends with him pushing her out of a second story window where she falls to her death. Cliff goes to get something to bury her with, but when he returns, her body is gone. Unbeknownst to him, the desire to look after her mother and siblings is so strong, her body rises up and begins to act on its own, becoming a rare life-form known as a husk. She lives on watching over them but never approaching them directly.

Josiah, who you see with Val in the picture, probably has it the worst. Again Val has several, upon several, failed pregnancies, only having 12 healthy children including Lilith. She has a massive gap between Lucille and Georgia, and after Valerie she just stops having them successfully...many miscarriages, still borns, and one or two that are born but are too frail and die, her body given no time to recover.

Valerie, the youngest, is seven when Josiah is born. He's small, but healthy, and would be able to live and survive. Cliff, however, in a fit of rage grabs the newborn, still bloody, and puts him into a wall. Val can hear him crying, and eventually hears the scream that is cut short before the thud into the wall.

I swear I get choked up just thinking about it. After Cliff leaves, Val, as tired as she is pulls herself out of bed and crawls over to Josiah's lifeless body. She holds it close, sobbing, her body and heart racked with pain. She sobbed similarly when Angeline died, but Josiah's death was just...so graphic. She prays for death in that moment, and comes close to it, becoming mortally ill. Still, she eventually buries her poor baby son. Days later, Razi, having formed a relationship with Lilith, tracks Val down and frees her. Val eventually recovers, reuniting with her five other daughters, and eventually the four other boys. They discover Cliff had captured Rin and held him in prison in the same area as his four sons. Having become a soldier, Rin heard about Val's plight, and tried to rescue her, only to be captured and held for many years.

Still, 22 years had passed and Val wasn't sure what Rin thought of her anymore. He responds by turning on the charm, and love starts to blossom again. Though she is unsure, her children support her when she decides to have one more child, her baby daughter, Eva, who you also see in this picture, with Rin.

Before Eva can be born, Josiah's story comes out, and Rin, feeling such deep emotions as Val had, asks for Kephalos to bring Josiah back to them. Kephalos agrees, if Josiah can be kept happy and healthy for a time, that the stay will be permanent. They make this day that he is brought to them, his new birthday. Baby Eva is born only a week later, and so the two are often treated as twins.

So now you've got Rin and Val back together. Angeline has returned to them and gotten emotions back enough it's almost as though she's normal again. Josiah's alive, and the living children Val had are all with her. She even has a handful of grandchildren now. She's only 37 years old which is young for an echidna. She even might have one more child, a son, for her and Rin in the future, as she's gotten healthier and stronger. There was...one final missing piece.

The first baby she ever had taken from her, baby Valarie, was revealed to her only recently. It was told to them, that Cliff kept the baby girl's remains, possibly to use them as blackmail against her mother and father. Her name, was chosen by Rin, who, in those days they spent together as teens, told Valerie he liked her name for a girl. This is also why Val names her young daughter, Valerie, after herself, in memory of that. Valarie is the same just a different spelling. They recovered baby Valarie's remains, and Val sunk into a deep depression, mourning and grieving the baby so heavily, much as she did with Josiah. She feels shame not even knowing the child existed, and was having a very hard time deciding that it was time to let her go.

Before this can happen one more blessing is given. Though Kephalos cannot do this himself in the interest of keeping balance, he offers a lead to someone who can grant wishes, and reverse bad things that happen, even death. Some of Val's older children go and find this person, and, along with healing Razi who is injured at this point, she takes baby Valarie, and brings her back to life.

And that's the final piece, the final wound mended.

Gah...it's full of sadness and suffering but also full of love I just love this story. Val and Rin are such an endearing couple. You have no idea >w<

Anyway long story out of the way you have Val here with her two babies, Josiah and Eva. I did most of this before we came up with Valarie...she's literally being brought back as I type this, otherwise I'd have included her. Again this was heavily referenced but I loved it so much I couldn't not post it. I'm really starting to get proud of my coloring ability it's not AMAZING or anything but I can tell I'm slowly but surely improving <3 Val and Josiah and all the line work was done the usual way, but I shaded Eva using my tablet! It's gonna take time to get used to it but I love having it <3

The background was done by the lovely Gemzybabee and she added a few highlights here and there, such as the whites of the eyes. I still need practice with that XD

Also don't mind Val not having legs XD I was thinking of doing black bars or something at the top and bottom or cutting it off but...ah well lol Gem thinks it looks okay so, yeah XP

Despite it being referenced I LOVE this picture. It was good practice for me as well, especially with hands and fingers. Eva's posing and everything was entirely free-handed. Her little bow is precious. I just love how Val looks she's just happy to finally get to raise her babies. I call it Mother's Heart because hers is literally made up of pieces stitches together, each one given to all of her children, even the ones that perished. She is just such a loving person, but her children come first in everything, in her life. Despite there being so many, she always has time for them, always.

I really hope blazeshadow doesn't mind that I referenced her beautiful picture. I did ask, and I just couldn't help myself <3 Massive credit to her for inspiring me, and more to Gem for her help as always X3
