I do admire people who are true straight edge, not just along for the ride. I mean in essence my Dad is straight edge, he doesn't use any stimulants or depressants at all, no tea, coffee, alchohol, and rarely does he take any sort of medicine. Truly it's for his health, he's 53 and has a tendency for high blood pressure (main reason for the no caffiene), but he looks like he's in his mid to late 40's, he looked even better a few years ago (people thought he was about 5-10 years than he actually was!) but now the stress is starting to show, he retires in two years thought with very good benefits so I'm happy for him. Woah didn't mean to go off like that, anyways what I'm saying is I admire the lifestyle choice, not the popularity aspect of it.

I had no idea what it is until I read the previous comments. I think it is cool idea! At least they have courage to show what they believe in in this crazy world. It seams that more and more people are living according to their 'friends' ideas of what is cool or not.
They would get my vote any day for being different!

Well, it's a drug-free and alcohol-free, and to a certain extent an abstinence and vegetarian lifestyle.

Huge fan of DT! Well, to be honest I never listened attentively to Rush... Lately I'm listened to very little stuff besides DT... Just a bit of Pink Floyd and some Anathema

No fan of Rush here, or Dream Theater, just not my type of "rock." Sure, they have taken their time to make well-thought-out tracks, but I'm more into the Industrial rock scene like Fear Factory, Rammstein and such.
The reason I asked, is because I knew a friend who was a big fan of both Dream Theater and Rush, his favorite song to play on the drums was Tom Sawyer.

Yes, Rush are one of the biggest influences of DT, so it's normal that people who like one of the bands likes the other

I always thought that the whole "Straight Edge" thing would fade away, I know several who considered the "straight edgers" to be pansies, and fools, and "not cool". Just a little known fact, J.T. Woodruff and Micha Carlie of the band "Hawthorne Heights" lived the "straight edge" band wagon when they where in school. Not to many of those kids who called them "uncool" are saying that now, are they?
