I'm a bit new to SAI, so I have a silly question if you don't mind: what is the layer clipping function exactly? I don't quite get it :/

you lost me :c you skipped an entire step, you say:
on the layer which is clipped (lets call it colored) choose lighter color. it will be the shine of the hair. increase brush's min size, lower density and add some blending.
it should look something like this.
but on the next step you say "choose a darker colour" yet the hair has already been almost fully coloured.. e.g. the fringe is lighter etc :c
