At first I thought this was one of Al McDermid's creatures. I didn't recognize the Z right off! Does the tool shown start with a Z? It is quite a graphic little composition.

Thanks. The tool doesn't start with a Z but there's an associative chain... It's a hacksaw frame, which leads to saw, which leads to sawing wood, which is snoring, which is part of catching some Zs.
None of which I had in mind when I made it! I was working visually but all that was there when I considered the piece.

That is quite a map! Of course, all the associations you can find after the creation are still a part of the piece, I think. Who knows? Maybe you were thinking of catching some Zs subconsciously.

That may well have been the case!
And I do agree about associations found later

thank you, dear!
i have standards for making this alphabet series that i don't quite understand myself or i would make it faster.
the black and white, i know - from some junk mail - i follow the scraps where they lead

mm-hmm
and taking a look, i see now i began it in april 2010. six letters per year... perhaps if i speak to the scraps very nicely... they talk you know but do not listen so well.

your scraps remind me of stubborn 12 years old boys. those of 14 as well, now that i'm thinking of it. try to ignore them, they will come begging (haha, doesn't always work either)

not a bad suggestion, though, worth a try
stubborn boys grow up to be wonderful men in my experience but sometimes along the way...

well, nice how you interpret here 'Z'.. because of its shape it really matches with this saw.

Thanks, Arlene. The background turned up in some junk mail, and I took advantage of it.

I'm fascinated by the way the hand holds the saw... is he trying to cut off his own arm? A perfect 'Z', though. I'm also getting lost in the starry black pinhole background.

Thanks, Ron. There's actually no blade there, it's slightly less menacing than it looks!

Hopefully it's the end of the alphabet but not of this series, there are many letters to do yet, and I will go on as soon as the scraps allow

Thanks, it's good to see you too! My schedule's been erratic lately, and we've been away so many weekends with one thing and another. How have you been faring?

Being too busy makes life run away even faster (is my theory, only).
With my international client there is a court hearing coming close and the pressure is increasing ...
Otherwise - eat, drink, sleep, work (or maybe the other way round, and sleeping eventually )

Work tends to expand and swallow those other things. It has a logic that is too often not humane... B. has been under a mountain of data analysis for three weeks, just tunneling her way out now. Maybe next month, sometime after the grandchild is born, we can get a little break.
I hope you have a good evening and weekend, though, Ulrich. A bit of respite.

With a hacksaw, you can cut pretty much any letter you like into a substantial variety of materials.

You just need the right blade for the letter. Don't use a "B" blade on a "Q."

LancelotPrice In reply to RichardLeach [2011-04-08 17:11:54 +0000 UTC]
A queer lot, those "Q" blades; they tend to be kept in a secret place, like disguised warships. I'm not sure if that makes using them easier or more difficult.

That's right. The Cadre of Hidden Q Handlers are the only ones who know, and they're not telling.
