Description
Not meant to be menacing - that's the kind of razor blade I use for cutting collage scrap and splitting medicine tablets.Related content

Well, hard to take the menace out of a razor blade
I like the image a lot. It is beautiful in its simplicity, and my guess is it gets near as many interpretations as it does views. The viewer will undoubtedly form an immediate thought around this piece based on their experience in life. Sounds trite, but I think only special images elicit that reaction. Nice.

Nothing is accidental on what you do, Richard, but maybe it is meta-accidental in some way!

"Meta-accidental" - I like that! Thank you, J-D, and for the fave too

It's like a ghost that wants a word in edge-wise... a word with ME.
6 and 1 equals the I.
Eye level with an answering question

There is a ghost there and I didn't see it till you commented. Thanks!

Hmmm. First you state that you split medicinal tablets and then there's the word "blow". Are you quite sure there's no Bolivian Marching Powder involved? And where is that coffee from? Hmmm.
Nice work, Richard.

Thanks, Jim. You're the first to see "blow" that way, I'm glad you noticed. And it's a complete coincidence that the word is there, I was just going for "accidental" - but there it was and it added something-or-other to the piece.

Hmmm. reminds me of "Kid Charlemagne" by Steely Dan. "Clean this mess up or we'll all end up in jail
the test tubes and the scale,
just get it all outta here."
Or maybe I'm just being rebellious. I certainly don't recommend anything like that, across the board.

An interesting pairing--the razor blade and the "casual." And then you read down the synonyms and there is the word "blow." As in a "casual blow"? Quite a commentary...on modern life, perhaps?

I found the scrap this way so I can't confirm that but yeah, it sure comes across like that. Might be "accidental blow" which is still quite a commentary, what was the dictionary writer thinking? It's a late 1960s dictionary I believe, though who knows when the definition was written... some kind of tough/hard/sad times reflected in the original, and unfortunately quite suitable today. You know, I don't put these things in on purpose - but there they are.

I need more coffee, still. So I'll just say that this piece works really well, from the (innocuous?) razor blade to the title.

"cutting collage scrap"
This somehow reminded me of 'cutting college crap'.

And that somehow reminded me of the one of the songs at my college - it began like this: "Beneath the pines of dear old Bowdoin, we were slinging the ink and kidding the profs along"
Ah, I suppose today people sling pixels rather than ink!
