This joy makes me uneasy, as if it was some paid, artificial joy

Yes, it has a certain contrived feeling...

I don't put many messages in my pieces - not consciously - but there is one here, the lower right corner, the word "difficulty" cut in two.

Thanks for pointing that little tidbit out to me, Richard...I would have missed it.
(I have found that collage artists do tend to have a very specific symbolic iconography that can be intimidating to me sometimes...I'm never quite sure what to say).

Don't worry about it with my stuff, Yvette - I don't even expect stuff like that to be seen, it's just there if someone happens to notice - or if I happen to point it out
I don't know if you ever read Jean-Daniel's (*djailledie 's) comments on my collages - he comes up with interpretations I would never think of!

Reds
And glass wine
There's a mix
And a jinx...
Lights on film
(Sometimes tricks)
But give a (woe)man
A pen
And they will feed
Imaginations
For germinations

this must be the most visually confused of your works that i remember! very rich.
it provokes an emotional reading from me, maybe precisely because i can't "read" it.

yes, it's different - i made it slowly for over a week (even though it does not have an enormous number of pieces - some went on and off again) - and it finally seemed done. i'm glad it has a richness
look at it side by side with your most recent blog post "psychose" - to me there is surprising similarity!

yours is like mine melted.
and of course with your mastery of languages you had the more accurate name

thanks, Isabelle! i had this inspiring piece of cardboard - you can hardly see it any more - but it led in strange directions. it came from ~fredfree not as an art supply but just to protect a book he sent me. i became weirdly obsessed with it

... the handwriting really completes this piece . - Wonder if -what some people call - ( 'joined up letters' will disappear in the near future ? -- is it still being taught ? ( Kat should know )

thanks, Doug, that's what I thought too. Good questions about cursive. Seems to me it would be an immense loss... though I suppose it could be revived as long as people don't altogether stop using pens and pencils to make letters of some kind...

... yeah - I guess it has to survive since it can be an art-form . . . . when was the last time you received a snail-mail letter - eloquently written in long-hand

My mother-in-law still writes long letters to my wife in long-hand. I get short scrawled notes from artists I'm exchanging stuff with, but a real letter in long-hand? It's been decades
