I've seen many beech trees in my life. I love them because of their smooth bark and beautiful green leaves - young ones are so soft in touch, and the old stiff and so different.Β

What a shame the tree on the left died because of human...

I couldn't have said it better I love when the old ones get treecaves and dead wood, as homes for animals such as bird and bats.
Yeah, what a shame, but the tree has to die if we want to use paper and and wooden products. It actually made me feel quite sad seeing all the trees cut down, but if we want to use the products then this is something that is required.

Very true. I even have wooden furniture, because I love wood... I wish, that for every cut tree a new one was planted

My mother keeps trying to convince me to take part in the "Bergwald" project, where they do just that - planting trees all day.
There are a lot of nice people out there doing such efforts and it's eventually pretty easy to do things yourself. Even if it's as much as throwing seed bombs to neglected spaces in the city, as a little refuge for bees and butterflies.
My hometown had an effort where they gifted free wildflower seeds to everyone who wanted. Another project was about giving away climbing plants, to get more green walls in the city.

That's very cool I don't have such nice initiatives at my place... Only one company selling bottled water claimed that will plant 1 mln trees - created a commercial about it. All they needed us to do was to buy their water, but who knows what was the result. I bought it though

I had an idea to plant a tree when I was about 15. With my friend we found some chestnuts near our home, and put it into the soil. Of course it was a really bad choice for a tree seed to plant. When visiting my parents I always look at the place with a smile. I was quite naive (well still am...) Β

Haha, we have a company promising to buy parts of the Rain forest if you buy their beer - because we're in Germany here.
It's like pop culture here to say to "drink beer to save the rain forest".

That sounds really sweet Maybe it's time to try again!

Yeah, Germans = beer, but Polish = vodka (more or less) There is even some word similarity - in Polish vodka sounds similar to 'woda' (water)

Sure, I even have a book about tree seeds how to treat them to be able to plant (some need to be placed in the fridge first, but others need to be eaten and digested... hmmm). I should give it a try, go and find some seeds. By the way, just yesterday I've found my first chestnut this year - well, bad idea with this one But beech seeds need to be digested by a wild boar first, and pine seeds are spreading by the wind... Oh gosh... :/ Will be hard...

Hehe, that sounds really cool Does it need to be specifically a wild boar? Or could you like just eat it yourself? I mean they taste good
Maybe oaks are the most easiest species if you want to grow them from seeds. Have some in some pots right now

You've ever tasted them? I know they're quite tough to chew up. Will check in the book

Really? That's cool. You're right, it may be a great idea. Have seen of those yesterday too. So first put into pot for the winter, and then whet it starts growing (a couple of years I suppose), take them outside and plant

They are quite tasty, yeah! Taste a bit sweet and nutty. Maybe a bit like hazelnuts or almonds. Also, the ones I know are not though to chew, actually easier than most nuts.
Our dad showed us that you could eat them. We eat them at pretty much any hike, when the season is right (I think it's in Autumn but I can't remember).

Actually the acorns just fell down from the big oak tree at the house here. They sprouted in the concrete cracks by themself. I had to remove them, so I thought I would just put them in some pots.
I'm really not an expert, but from a quick search it seems you can put them out pretty quickly (I guess it depends on the species). Mine are a couple of months old now and they are about 10-12 cm tall already.

Yes, autumn. My father also keeps teaching me to eat from the forest while we are hiking, but it's mostly wild fruits, not seeds. Have to try it

Oh, so you meant real ones too Now, I will definitely go and find some Β

I think those root formations especially show when trees stand on top of little hills, etc. - if you want to look out for some! c:

Pretty cool! It's like a small village for goblins. I feel sorry for the tree in the background. ☹️

Yeah, they cut out lots of the trees in the forest lately :/
Luckily they let many of them lay there after they are cut, instead of turning them into products.
This way there will be more dead wood in the forest, many animals live in or from.
