Conformation: Ideal build for his breed, with a strong shoulder and hindquarters, good bone, a lightly crested neck, and a rectangular frame. His gaits are lovely, with the ideal floating trot, a graceful walk, and a light and fast canter.
Temperament: Intelligent, alert, studious and leaderly, though much more chill than Ashe Rune Stables' other resident Trakehner. Caesar is a refined gentleman, calm and dignified -- though he gives a mean stink-eye and pins his ears if you make mistakes. Generally stays interested and focused when working, and has a good work drive. He's not very spooky; if something does startle him, he may yell or rear, but then he's going to inspect rather than bolting for the hills. The main exception to his calmness is whenever he gets turned out to the big pasture with the other stallions; he uncharacteristically gets the zoomies for a little bit, every time. ARS' staff finds it hilarious to watch him run around like a colt.
He is a more dominant stallion and will put other horses in their place if they try any nonsense with him, but if you listen to and respect him he will offer the same in return. He cannot be called unfriendly by any means and he enjoys company -- he's just a bit reserved. Stays happiest on turnout in a space within viewing distance of his favorite stablemates, and so he gets to have the paddock next to Carmen 's so that they can chat across the fences (at a safe distance apart, of course!)
Handling: Under saddle he is attentive to commands, though (like most stallions) has his occasional stubborn days. He breathes heavily while being worked. When jumping he is strong and precise; on the flat he is elegant and purposeful, and aware of the turns and tight spots on the course. In group settings he works well with other horses and keeps to his space as expected, no matter whether his training partners are stallions or mares. He has great ground manners, and doesn't get overly dirty during turnout.
Caesar loves the farrier and enjoys being brushed, hosed down, or having his hooves done. In fact, he has sometimes sought out his handlers for baths on particularly muddy days. That said, he strongly dislikes having his mane and tail braided or thinned out and will get upset about even a hint of pulling on his hair, so it must be done in small sections at a time. He is at least keen enough to not rub out the braids once they're in, lest they have to start all over again.
Spooks: Cellphone ringtones
Favorite Treat: Sweet potatoes

History: Caesar was not a very expected horse. When the cross between his foundation sire and dam was made, his breeders expected a bit of color; his sire was a black tobiano splash, and his dam was a strongly-colored bay with light roaning from a line of Australian-bred Trakehners. When the foal arrived though, and the handlers went out in the middle of the night to see him, they were stunned. They initially thought the colt had perhaps suffered and injury during or after the birth, but holding a flashlight and a towel to the "blood" on his face and chest returned nothing of worry. Indeed, this was a healthy chimera colt. The handlers were still skeptical of his well-being, but his dam was attentive and already fussing over the young lad, cleaning him off and standing patiently for when he would attempt to nurse. So, they let the pair be. The veterinarian confirmed the colt to be in good health the next morning.
As Caesar grew up, his breeders contemplated gelding him; such loud markings were not within the breed standard, though he had no unacceptable colors. But Caesar had good conformation and a wonderful even temperament, with a great willingness to work. Already as a two year old he was showing interest in light training, and participated in some novice liberty and in-hand competitions. It was thus decided he would he sold to a competition-focused stable, and his gelding was left up to his new owners to decide about.
Ashe Rune Stables purchased him at this point, intrigued by his flashy coloration and appreciative of his good temperament. They decided he would make a proper project horse and have been working on his training since. Once he was old enough to be broke to ride, he showed good initial skill in just about every field they introduced him to, and so it was decided he would compete as an eventer. Since he has retained good handleability and shows promise, he has been left as a stallion for the time being.
