Description Heheh! The first painting I've done for myself in quite awhile. It was very enjoyable to paint for no purpose! <3

I did two more of the same sort, in fact, though these were in the vein of inking and painting older sketches. One is a Master and Commander fanart, which came out far better than I would have thought possible considering the original, and the other is a Final Fantasy 5 fanart. My first full-on watercolor FF5 fanart!! It's very cheerful and I've only begun painting it. Makes me happy to see it sitting on my desk though.

...These guy's heads are too big! It's a bad habit I've found myself falling into. I'd like to fall out of it...

Nina and Ryu are holding hands, though you can't see it. Ryu is also supposed to be leaning forward--he's not that much shorter than Lin (/Rin). X3

I really really like how Nina came out.
I didn't mean to make her dress, er, quite so see-through... The idea was that it had gotten wet. (Guess I'm just a pervert at heart!) I'm not sure she actually wore a bra in the game(?) but I guess I'm not that much of a perv, haha!

I think i know someone who bought this print at Sakura Con. Oh wait, that was ME!!!! Still my favorite print i bought all weekend! (though i loved the chrono cross one i got as well)

I still can't believe that you actually DID fanart for this game!!! Sooooo good! n_n

Heh! That made me laugh.

I can't wait to do some more fanart of these three! (I wish I could draw Bosch, too... but he's surprisingly tough... sob)

Thank you again!! That meant a lot to me! (And still does!)

Awww, i'm definitely gonna do some BOF5 fanart one of these days. Even if only you will appreciate it! lol

I think the tough part about Bosch is his bizarro hairstyle. I remember waaaay back in the day when i had some random BOF5 doodles, he was the only one i never drew. One of these days, i'm gonna find the free time to play that game again!

Rin-Uzuki In reply to desfunk [2011-06-22 23:09:16 +0000 UTC]

Heh! I'm looking forward to that day!
And I'm sure some other people somewhere on the internet with appreciate it! (It's the whole world here, after all!)

Right! It's totally his haircut!!
I think I've finally got it sort of kind of maybe down, but... I always end up just drawing the main three, and forgetting about dear old Bosch.

Man, there's a BOF5 artbook out there that I'd really like to buy someday... aside from having amazing art, I bet it'd be excellent reference material for all sorts of characters and places!

Have you started a game+ in BOF5? It's pretty fun! I'd like to play through it again, heheh. (Someday I want to beat out Bosch's D Ratio number thing. That would be so cool if you could actually change the beginning if you did that.)

Some day i'll bless the world with ultra cute bof5 art! lol

Back in the day i used to collect game artbooks. Just for that very reason (reference, etc). Oddly enough, i'm not sure where i've put half them. The only one i can still find is of one of the random Sakura Wars games.

As for BOF, i think i was on my 5th playthrough when i finally stopped playing that game. I loooooved how each playthrough unlocked more and more of the story. I never did find out how many playthroughs it took to get the 'whole' story though. One day i'll return to it. Though i doubt i'll have my save of it anymore u_u

I've found out you actually can't transfer BOF5 save files 'cause of it's rather quirky save system. So if you haven't deleted it, you may still have your game file lurking somewhere...!

YEAHH!! I look forward to that day, man! Let's slowly fill up the world with BOF art!!! (And other good things!) I actually doodled some Nina and Rin art last night when I was trying to fall asleep... maybe I should scan it, eh? (Maybe I can practice coloring digitally, hoohoo)

Oorgh, you've lost art books? That must be painful!

desfunk In reply to Rin-Uzuki [2011-06-24 21:30:34 +0000 UTC]

I might. Just need to dig up my memory cards (wherever they are.... possibly in my 'old game bin')

I definitely want to do some BOF5 art now though. The more i talk with you, and think about how great that game was. Was tempted to do a 'group' shot type thing. But i might just do individual pics instead.

And i doubt i actually 'lost' the books. I'm just not sure what closet/dresser/cabinet they were thrown into.

Definitely post up any new BOF stuff you do though! Always excited to see more stuff n_n

Heh! Okay! I will! (After I figure out this new scanner... I might just plug the old one back in...)

Definitely looking forward to seeing your art, too! Talking with you has been a great inspiration! Seeing a group picture would be awesome, but individual ones are great, too!

desfunk In reply to Rin-Uzuki [2011-06-26 13:33:02 +0000 UTC]

LOL, but scanners are super easy to use. Unless you went with a whole new brand? Then you've gotta learn their scanning software

Heh yeah. Talking with people who love things just as much is always a great inspiration! All this talk makes me want to PLAY the games again too! I definitely want to do the full cast of Chrono Trigger for button designs. Cause if i end up doing Chrono Cross, and BOFDQ, those'll more be 'specialty' things!

If i can find the time today, i might try to get a few sketches done. Since i'm now crazy motivated to get some art done!

Heh..poor Ryu. The look on his face shows that he isn't too fond of the water.

Actually..I like it..Ryu's sword hand is a bit small though.

Really great though..I love seeing more of the Dragon Quarter stuff...you inspire me...

I'm so glad to hear that!
I love BOF, especially BOF5, and seeing new art for it is always great!

I actually wanted Ryu to be forging ahead into unknown territory... so he's apprehensive, not knowing if there's monsters ahead or not, and wanting to protect Nina. X3

I agree, Ryu's hand IS pretty small... especially when compared to his head, which is huge!

Thank you very much for taking the time to comment and critique! I really appreciate it!

Haha! I never thought of Nina as a... "Aircleaner"... (with a capital A!) but I guess she is one, huh? I love the glowing/sparkling effect of Nina's wings.... I wish I could pull it off, too, but it's difficult with watercolors. *3* Well, I'll be able to do it digitally someday! <3 Thank you for taking the time to comment! XD

Hee! Thank you so much, Kit! <3 I gotta say, it makes me pretty happy to get praise like that from you, my Pierre-lovin' friend! XD (Thanks for commenting and favoriting it too!)

The ending was kind of tough... but it's fun to go through and do game+'s.

I want to get my number to be lower than Bosch's! XD It'd be so cool if doing that changed the storyline, haha!

Ah, I love the graphics and the story of BOF5. >w<

I've never really played an online game, so I can't compare the two, I'm afraid...

It's probably good I've never played them, though. Knowing me, I might get addicted--and what in the world would I do with another hobby? XD

Masanohashi In reply to Rin-Uzuki [2010-05-02 19:42:53 +0000 UTC]

mhm, I see
anyway, for me the game should have a decent plot, it's most important part of gameplay

hmm, you think you should get addicted to MMORPGs? I would suggest you many good in my op ordinary rpg games, which would be a better choice imo ^^'
heh, we can egt addicted from anything ;]

Rin-Uzuki In reply to Masanohashi [2010-05-05 06:06:05 +0000 UTC]

Heheh! Yes, plot, a good story, is definitely the most important thing! Or at the very least one of the most important things. <3

Oh! Yes, I'd love to hear what kind of games you recommend, Masanohashi.

Indeed! There are many things in this world to enjoy!

👍: 0 ⏩: 2

Rin-Uzuki In reply to Rin-Uzuki [2010-05-07 06:57:14 +0000 UTC]

Ah, yes, Chrono Trigger! A classic! XD I actually played Chrono Cross before CT, so it's more of a classic to me, but I enjoy both games immensely. <3

I've heard about The World Ends with You! (Called "It's a Wonderful World" in Japanese.) I'd dismissed it since I lacked a DS, but now that I'm borrowing my pal's DS, I can actually play it, huh?! (And that goes for the FF3 and FF4 remakes, too! MAN! That's awesome!)

I tried playing a Wild Arms once, but... it was a remake. I think I'd rather try the original. What system was the original Wild Arms game for?

Huh... this Legend of Heroes thing looks pretty generic... but I guess that shouldn't necessarily count against it, considering its age.

My friend played Golden Sun (for the GBA?) and said it was terribly cliche. I tried a little of it myself and couldn't help but agree... but then, the beginning of an RPG doesn't necessarily dictate the rest of it, eh?

Hmm... have you ever played any of the Lunar games, Masanohashi?

👍: 0 ⏩: 0

Masanohashi In reply to Rin-Uzuki [2010-05-06 02:35:51 +0000 UTC]

yeah, exactly ^^

So well, first of all I would recommend you games like Chrono Trigger (awesome rpg with a main motive of a travel through the time), The World Ends With You (great DS rpg with extraordinary as for this genre plot and gameplay, very nice climate). Wild Arms (classical, quite old school rpg), Legend of Heroes p. III - VII (just awesome rpg serie, comparable to Final fantasy) and Golden Sun (you have to play it necessarily very essentional, with a great climate rpg serie for GBA; there is going to appear a DS sequel to this serie in this year)

So that would be enough as for now I guess ^^'
And pleasure is mine

Yeah, true

I think the composition is a bit akward, cus I would have loved to see ryu holding hands with nina xD

anyway, good job !

Rin-Uzuki In reply to Nayth [2010-04-29 02:55:28 +0000 UTC]

I really wanted to see Ryu and Nina holding hands, too...! >n< They're a sweet couple.

But I couldn't figure out the logistics of their hands--where exactly they'd be, and in what position. And then I inked it in without having drawn the hands. Grugh!

Well, I guess that means I'll just have to keep trying, right? Some charming Nina x Ryu stuff would be a nice thing to see!

From you as well, for that matter! X3 I guess if we have the same taste in RPGs... we must just have awesome taste, huh?

I looove old-school RPGs, too!! The old Breath of Fire and Final Fantasy games, Chrono Trigger--and I suppose even things like Chrono Cross could be considered "old school" in this day and age! *A* Oh, how time flies...!!

Well, if you miss them... they're always there, waiting to be played again! <3 (I know I've got a whole stack of games I want to play again, heheh!)

Well! I love seeing fanart too, so... why not? BOF5 fanart in your style would be as kick-ass as your Elly, I bet! XD

Dark-Abyss666 [2010-04-28 07:51:10 +0000 UTC]

i LOVE this!!

I must say, this work is a lot more detailed than the previous ones i have seen from you!!!
Things in the pic that i so totally LOVED-
1) The perspective. I liked how you maintained the perspective of the environment, and didn't mess it up in spite of all those pipes running here and there!
2) The shade variations you brought about are commendable too!! i loved how you created shades on Ryu's clothing !! And, also that lil blue glowing orb thingy on Rin's belt!!(that's the character with the cat ears right? I am so so sorry, i am illiterate when it comes to FF *A* I only remember watching the anime and a movie ages ago )
3)Their expressions are pretty good too!!
4)The bat on the ceiling is adorable

What could have been better-
1) The hands ^^ Ryu's hand which holds the sword seems a little off. Nina's hand that is visible, seems a little stretched too. ^^ i am sure you can fix that in no time if you tried
2) The top right portion looks a little less crisp compared to the whole picture, i don't know if that happened due to a faulty scanner or due to use of a little too much water during the painting process. Nonetheless, it doesn't reduce the beauty of the picture in any way ^^

Looking forward to more work from you!!! I really like your style of art ^^

p.s: I don't think their heads are too big, in fact, they look pretty good to me

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Rin-Uzuki In reply to Dark-Abyss666 [2010-04-29 04:10:32 +0000 UTC]

Wow! Thank you so much for your long response, and taking the time to look at and comment on this drawing in detail! I can't say how much it means to me! XD (I should like to do the same for you!)

At the very least, I'll respond with an equally long reply! <3

Well, this is actually Breath of Fire, not Final Fantasy. But that's okay! XD Rin (or Lin) is indeed the character with cat ears. Nina is the blonde girl and Ryu is the blue-haired guy in the middle.

Ah! ;w; Thank you very much for all your compliments, Eek! I'm very happy to think that my drawings are becoming more detailed--I'm trying to draw more backgrounds and settings. It's a bit of a struggle, but it's exciting and entertaining, too! I'll keep at it! Your support means a ton to meeee!!

Could've been better stuff:
2) Ah, yes, this is in fact due to the scanner. We got a new one recently and I'm not used to its ways at all! It desaturates things, and I haven't figured out the right way to flatten watercolor drawings well with it yet; my old dictionary method isn't failproof any more...! I'm glad to hear this doesn't detract from things too much! (A bit of the painting was cut off, as well. Nothing essential, but something nonetheless.)

Really? Their heads don't seem too big? Not compared to the size of their shoulders and bodies...? (Or perhaps things are different since we can't see where their legs end--and I don't know where they do either, haha!)

Mmh. I wasn't sure about their hands at all--in truth, I felt that their arms were very stretched and exaggerated... I think that's actually why I chose to have them wading through water. To offset all the imbalances. I love drawing hands, but I feel like... closed hands... are difficult in their own right, and easily too simplified, you know?

haha! I'm glad you noticed the bat! XD I wanted to include more monsters hiding around, but my creature drawing skills are sadly lacking...

GYAAAH! Thank you again!! I've got more art to scan and upload once I'm able, and I'm really looking forward to more of your in-depth comments, Eek! They make the whole experience quite enjoyable!

Aw, thank you so much for the detailed reply!! I am glad that you consider my opinions worth noticing!!! ^^
mhmm, i agree, hands aren't too easy to draw, i have been drawing hands for ages and i mess them up quite often ah, yes yes yes, monster scanners, we all fear them *A* i haven't been able to restore my work's actual colors and textures after scanning them, till date either
