Description RMS Caronia, the nearest ship to respond to Serenity's distress signals. Her normal maximum speed is 14.5 knots, but she has raced to the area at a juddering 18 after diverting nearly everything to her reciprocating engines.

This is Caronia's appearance at the time of the Serenity disaster. She arrived at the scene at 03:30 and picked up the first boat (no. 2) at 04:10. She finally left the area at 08:50 after the SS Jashera arrived on the scene.

Caronia picked up 792 survivors, largely from lifeboats. Jashera would rescue another three from large pieces of debris over the next couple of hours.

She's a beauty, just wondering , besides the Andrea Doria & obviously the Cunard line's Caronia of 1948, what were your inspirations?

Pretty much just Andrea Doria. I liked the name Caronia, so I used that, took Andrea Doria's basic design and made it more 1930s rather than 1950s.

Looks like you used the QM's bridge, along with the forecastle.

The bridge is a fairly standard Cunard-esque design. The QM's bridge wasn't really much of a development in shape from the Lusitania's, for example.

As for the fo'c'sle, she may have a well deck - like QM - but that in itself is again hardly strange. Rather a lot of liners had well-decks, some both fore and aft.

That was partly the intention. When I originally described the Caronia to the other players - we had sailed on her previously to the Serenity disaster - I said 'think of the Andrea Doria and you're about there.'

Only difference is that Doria's funnel was a bit taller & longer
