The final part of my leather boot cover tutorial is finally here!

One of my biggest struggles as a beginning costume maker was trying to do boot covers.  Specifically, leather boot covers.  While there are plenty of great tutorials for fabric, vinyl and spandex boot covers, I couldn't find any good tutorials that used leather.  Through trial and error, I developed a method for creating sturdy and authentic looking boot covers from leather.  While I would recommend having some previous experience with boot covers before attempting this method, if you are ambitious give it a try!  You can make any boots with this method, I just happened to be making my Twilight Princess Link boots when I decided to create this tutorial.  I hope this tutorial is helpful!

If there is anything that is confusing or needs to be clarified in this tutorial, let me know so I can make it better!

I would love to see anything made with this tutorial!  Link to any creations made with this tutorial in a comment so I can add it to this description!

Nice, this is really informative! And your hand-dyed result looks great! Have they held up well? I was wondering how it would look to actually sew the toe and heel caps on, instead of gluing, by test-pinning the pieces on and then marking through your stitch holes in the small pieces, removing them all, and sewing them together. More of a time-consuming option tho.

Thank you so much!  I haven't worn them much since I made them because I'm still finishing the rest of the costume.  However, I've made several pairs of boots in the past using the same techniques.  They have held up through convention weekends and as of now they still don't need repairing.  It would be doable to sew the pieces on instead of gluing.  The only thing that might prove problematic is the stretchiness of the leather since it could throw off your markings.  The finished boot cover could end up looking a little different than intended.  I've sewed through up to four layers of leather, so that shouldn't be a problem.  In my experience, though, strong glue looks good and holds up very satisfactorily.  Hope that helps!  By the way, I really like your work !
