Description I finished the construction of the Master Sword! This thing is four feet long and weighs about two pounds. I based the engraved runes off of the Hylian alphabet. It's really sturdy and I have no concerns about it breaking. I used the following materials to make this sword:

Balsa wood (for the blade)
Metal rod (laminated inside the balsa wood sections)
PVC pipe section (for the handle)
Thin cardboard (I used this for all of the raised structures except parts that are previously mentioned)
Metal washers/metal scraps (I stuffed the pommel of the sword with these to help balance it)
Wood glue
Hot glue
And, of course, every section is covered in Worbla. I used about a quarter to a third of a Jumbo sheet.

The sword took me about 20-25 hours to make.

I'll be working on the shield starting next week!

How much would you charge for buliding the sword and shield for someone whos never cosplayed before i could pay by money order or just mail you the money ordering replicas onlline of either and even handmade authentic costumes are $100+

Unfortunately, I do not accept commissions for props this large because of the time and cost involved.  I also prefer to make new props for commissions rather than ones that I have made before.  The materials alone cost $75, and I spent between 60-70 hours making it.  To get paid fairly for my time, the cost would have to be extremely high.  There are other prop makers out there who would be willing to commission this, but the cost will always be a lot more than the mass-produced props that are cheaply made.  However, you get a high-quality, artisan made prop that will look fabulous.  Hope this helps clarify some things, and good luck on your costume and props!

That looks amazing! I was searching for some photos because I'm working on my own master sword, not with worbla because we don't have it here I'm using wood and body filler for cars. Your master sword looks really great. Perfect replica.
I have a question tho. What are the glyphs on the handguard and diamond? Now I know that they are Hylian alphabet but I don't know the real sequence of glyphs. I was searching for some explanations so I can put the right glyphs on my sword but can not find any. Can you maybe help?
I really appreciate it.

Thanks!  Sadly, the textures are way too pixelated in-game to be able to see the glyphs clearly.  There is only one official artwork piece that shows the Master Sword (found here:  zeldawiki.org/images/6/6b/TP_L… ), and the only conclusion that I could draw from it was that it looked similar to the characters of the Hylian alphabet, specifically the one from Ocarina of Time ( zeldawiki.org/images/7/78/OldH… ).  In the end, I just created a random sequence of characters that looked good.  Maybe with the release of Twilight Princess HD, it will be possible to pinpoint the exact sequence of glyphs.  I hope that helps !

I just wanted to share what I found out while researching my own Master Sword for anyone interested: the glyphs repeat "Master Sword" all the way around the hilt in the Hylian Alphabet as found here.

This is unbelievable!
I have used worbla and still don't really understand how you bend things like that and make such perfect "cuts". Do you cut every little piece out and then attach them again? how??! It gets so soft! D:

Rinkujutsu In reply to Warnstrom [2016-01-22 13:30:05 +0000 UTC]

Thanks!  Actually, I only used the Worbla for sandwiching, just to create a hard and sturdy shell.  Most of the shapes that you see were created with pieces of thin cardboard (similar to tagboard) cut into shapes and glued together with hot glue.  After I constructed each part out of cardboard, I sandwiched the entire piece with Worbla and then stuck into place on the sword.  I sculpted the fine, round details from Worbla scraps.

how did you make the handle?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Rinkujutsu In reply to credechica4 [2015-10-12 01:05:01 +0000 UTC]

It is a very small diameter PVC pipe section that I heated up and bent to shape.  I used Worbla to fill in the bent areas and to give it a sturdy covering.

what about the guard?

Rinkujutsu In reply to credechica4 [2015-10-12 11:13:42 +0000 UTC]

Oops, I thought this was a comment on my shield, so my response is about how I made the handle for that.  I used PVC pipe for the handle of the sword as well, but I did not heat it and bend it like for the shield .  For the guard, I used the same technique as the raised metal sections on my shield; using thin pieces of cardboard cut into shapes and fitted together.  I also did this for the jewel in the center, the cone shaped part, and the pommel.

so you make the cone part out of thin cardboard? how did you carve those glyphs in?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Rinkujutsu In reply to credechica4 [2017-02-19 16:53:23 +0000 UTC]

The cone is covered with worbla. I carved the glyphs into a strip of worbla and then wrapped it around the cone.

would you happen to have folding pattern for the fittings?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Rinkujutsu In reply to credechica4 [2017-03-07 12:14:14 +0000 UTC]

Unfortunately, I'm not sure if I still have the pattern. Even if I did, I don't give out my patterns because they take a lot of time to draft and develop.

I might use foamcore for the handle or just cast it in resin

Its so funny I come across this, becuase I've been wanting some ideas on how to make my own! THANK you! That looks incredible!   Question! Are you going to coat it with something to make it sturdy? Like resin or something? Or is it pretty sturdy enough on its own? Just curious!

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Rinkujutsu In reply to Wahl-Von-Lugacki [2015-08-24 01:32:38 +0000 UTC]

Thanks!  Glad I can be of help .  Everything is covered with Worbla.  Because it's basically a type of plastic, it's really sturdy without using resin over it!  It also can't crack like resin.  I plan to sometime soon post a video on my facebook page depicting the durability of the sword.
