Description Part One

If you have questions, I'll do my best to answer them, but here's a couple of FAQs from part 1.

Q: Will you make these commercially?
A: No, I don't do commissions for cosplay, and as she took 2 months to make, I don't even want to put a price on the hours involved.

Q: How much were the materials?
A: I used two kinds of fur, one was $60/metre and one was $45/metre. The jaw set was $10...but with $40 shipping! The wire probably came to around $30-40, foam around $30-40, paper clay was about $50 and the perspex was free from a art supplies recycler. I already had the paints and markers. All in all, she cost around $250-300 in materials.

Q: Where can I get _____?
A: My materials were from my local fabric store, hardware store, art supplies recycler and the internet. Check around your local area or try a online search.

Oh Gosh, I saw the part one of this a few days ago, and this makes me want to try my hand at a large project like this. Seriously considering cosplaying as Hiccup from How to Train your Dragon and making myself a fairly large toothless companion! Thanks so much for these!

My shit.

I just lost it.

PUPPET BROFIST OF DOOM - This is just...nnggg I love it! Such a good idea for a costume 'prop' - cause yea it's really hard to dress up as a realistic Okami, why not just make a puppet? This is lovely and just fantastic work!! Yea she only 'works' when sitting but the movement you did is super good and you really bring it to life. It's just like in the game! The flowers in the costume pics are a nice touch too.

Not really, they're just little LED fairy lights, so they don't get that hot. If they were bulbs, then maybe!

Haha, thanks, but please don't use the term 'taxidermy', there's certainly no real animal parts used here! The jaw set is from a taxidermy website, but it's made of plastic.

Umm..Why did you choose to make it a controllable puppet rather than just a plushie ? Was it in the contest rules ?

What local store did you go to??? Anything big (ish) like Hardware man, Ison and Co., Hobbeysew or anything like that? Do you think it would be better to go to bigger places, smaller ones or online. And how much of each material? How many metres fur would be wise to buy, etc.???
Sorry, I'm kinda bombarding you.
Just out of interest, you said it took 2 months to make, but were you working on it daily, and how long per day did you normally work on it???

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Risachantag In reply to Vivid-Vivo [2011-12-30 11:26:05 +0000 UTC]

I don't know what's in your local area, but I went to Spotlight and Bunnings. I had 50cm of long fur and 2.5m of short fur. As for hours per day... I think you're asking for too much detail there! Around 3 hours a day, maybe?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Vivid-Vivo In reply to Risachantag [2012-01-01 09:18:28 +0000 UTC]

Yeah, I've got both of those round here.
Oh, sorry... Haha, I just want to know if I put maybe slightly more time I could have it finished earlier... but if you spent 3 hours a day every day, then I can't top that. I simply don't have the time... Still, looks epic!

o3o I'm rather curious about that marker you used to do the red markings~ I've been trying to find something to color fur with for a future plushie~ :3

How well does it stay on the fur and does it stay on if it gets wet?

XD Also your puppet is incredible~

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Risachantag In reply to Twilit-Guardian [2011-12-30 10:14:01 +0000 UTC]

The red marker I used is a Tria marker, though they're rather hard to find these days. I believe Copic markers use the same or a very similar kind of ink. The ink hasn't smudged much, despite all the petting Ammy got at the convention. There may be better specialty products out there eg. wig dyes etc, but the markers worked well for this.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Twilit-Guardian In reply to Risachantag [2011-12-30 10:31:08 +0000 UTC]

:3 Awesome~ And markers would work best for what I need the coloring for since I'll be drawing tattoos on fur~ XD;

^-^ Thank you for the reply~
