Description
I finally got it finished! Yay!I've been asked a few times how I made my Gumi headphones, but to be honest they were thrown together literally the night before with random materials I had lying around. And they were hideous.
So, I decided I would re-make some so they were easier to make and looked better. I made these for my friend ~pockami , who is an amazing Gumi / cosplayer in general!
By no means is this the best/only/easiest way to make these, this is just how I figured out to make them simple enough.
I really hope this is easy to understand. I tried to proof-read it but if there's any spelling errors etc please let me know XD
Also, if you don't understand any of it or have any questions please ask me and I am more than happy to help in anyway!
Hopefully this tutorial is of use to someone!
Please feel free to link me to any headphones you've made with this tutorial, I'd love to see ^___^
Gumi headphones and tutorial by *RadClawedRaid
Edit: Just realised a price guide would help here. I can't remember exactly how much they cost to make but they were surprisingly cheap. I would estimate no more than $20-25AUD. (Cost may vary) //End Edit.

RadClawedRaid In reply to Fluttershyisbesttree [2013-05-09 00:16:51 +0000 UTC]
Essentially they're like a button, but a self adhesive dome kind of thing with glitter on them. I got mine from my local fabric/craft store. If you can't find anything, buttons (without visible holes) could probably work just the same

so, could you tell me what it costs to make these headphones? :3
I want to take a look at some vocaloid headphones, that's why I'm asking.
Amazing work. I also love your Happy Synthesizer tutorial, maybe I'll use them both xD
👍: 0 ⏩: 1
RadClawedRaid In reply to Lightstar98 [2012-09-15 08:13:51 +0000 UTC]
Oh! I never thought to include the price... Now I feel somewhat silly XD
It turns out I've thrown the receipt for the materials out or I've lost it. I would estimate about $20-25AUD or so (that is assuming you already own a hot glue gun/sticks and hair pins etc). They were actually fairly cheap to make, so it may not have even been that much.
And thankyou so much! I hope they'll both be able to help you ^__^
The Happy Synthesizer headphones cost no more than about $12AUD. The headphones I bought were $9 and the fur fabric was $25per metre however I only bought 10cm so it cost about $2.50 XD
Let me know if you have any other questions

Lightstar98 In reply to RadClawedRaid [2012-09-15 12:21:25 +0000 UTC]
Wow, that's really cheap O.O I took a look at the official cosplay pages, where it costs..well $50 and I'm surprised about yours. Thank you very much for this tutorial, I'll try to make at least one pair of headphones <3
I have one broken pair of headphones at home, so the happy synthesizer one won't be a problem to make. Oh my god I'm so happy to know how to make these old things something special xDD
(And yeah, I'm kinda crazy )

RadClawedRaid In reply to Lightstar98 [2012-09-15 14:06:06 +0000 UTC]
Yeah cosplay selling websites may be a bit more expensive to cover materials, time/effort and to make a profit ^__^ but yeah even so they were cheaper than I was expecting ^__^
Ohhh well since you have headphones already the Happy Synthesizer ones will cost you next to nothing! And they're reaallllyyy easy to make. I think they took me no more than 10 mins each? (I made 3 of them, one for me and my Luka and another Gumi one for a friend cos I had so much left over fake fur XD)

Lightstar98 In reply to RadClawedRaid [2012-09-15 16:59:51 +0000 UTC]
Wow 10 Minutes each? O.O That's....AWESOME, now I know what to cosplay xD
Will you make other headphone tutorials too, like Miku's/Rin/Len/Luka? I know, there are lots of people who already made one, but I think you can explain these things really good! (I also love your cosplays )

RadClawedRaid In reply to Lightstar98 [2012-09-16 00:43:06 +0000 UTC]
Yeah the Gumi ones took a fair bit longer, but yeah the HS ones are so simple
Hmm, I was thinking about it... depends if people are interested and if I can find someone who wants the finished headphones XD Is there any specific one (or more) you wanted a tutorial for?
Awww, thanks! I'm always paranoid I suck at explaining things and that my Tutorials make no sense XD so I'm glad to hear their easily understood LOL. Thankyou!
Aw~ it makes me happy you like my costumes

Lightstar98 In reply to RadClawedRaid [2012-09-16 07:02:30 +0000 UTC]
Well...maybe Magnet headphones or Luka's. Hmm...there are lots of tutorials on how to make magnet headphones...even if you don't make a tutorial for them, do you have an idea how to make them best? I'd say with craft foam and cardboard but I'd like to hear your opinion xDD
Luka's or Gakupo's headphones would be nice because they're different from Miku's in some points. Well in the end it's your decision xD
Ah you give the headphones away? I should ask my sister, if she'd like to have Luka or Gakupo headphones xD We're currently looking for a way to use our wigs in more than just one cosplay, but it's pretty hard xD We've got pink short hair (not much saturation), a long turquoise one without pigtails, a long blonde for a lolita cosplay and my Gumi wig xD ANd we have no idea what to do with them xD
Oh my I hope I'm not bugging you, I'm so sorry, that's one of my fangirl moments ^^"

RadClawedRaid In reply to Lightstar98 [2012-09-18 08:49:47 +0000 UTC]
Hmm okay I'll keep Luka and Gakupo in mind. A local friend of mine has asked for Snow Miku headphones also.
Hmm yeah I've never worked with craft foam before but I've seen it used, I'd suggest that or cardboard. Either one or a mix of the both would be fine ^__^ The ear piece would be a little higher than the wings on them, and you could get those coloured plastic tube things to do the cord wrap around piece. (If that makes sense?).
Uh well the HS ones I made I got green for my Luka while I seen it as we were both having trouble finding the right colours. Then because the rolls are nearly 2m long I had so much pink left over I made another one for a friend who will be doing that version of Gumi later on. Then for the same Gumi friend I made her default ones as I had been requested so many times to do a tutorial for them. My first attempt (my ones) are horrible, so I wanted to remake them but I'm happy to use my old ones again as I'll probably only re-shoot Gumi once or twice more. And it'd save ~pockami time on her default Gumi cosplay. But I also could hand them the headphones in person, so no postage costs etc.
I could do a commission if you wanted... but the only problem is, I was looking up postage costs the other day.... for US and Canada definitely postage is way to excessive. Where abouts are you from? We may be able to work something out? (Depending on when you need them by).
Ohhh your wigs sound nice ^_^ the pink short wig could be used for Luki (male Luka)? Long blonde I'm sure you'd be able to find multiple uses for but long turquoise and Gumi are pretty specific XD
Nooo, you're not bugging me at all! I welcome comments/interactions ^_^
So sorry about the late reply, been trying to get my secret cosplay for Saturday ready so I hope that's okay!

Lightstar98 In reply to RadClawedRaid [2012-09-19 16:22:25 +0000 UTC]
Yeah Snow Miku would be great too <3
I think I'll try to make my Magnet ones with foam AND cardboard. the foam would be for the black part and cardboard (I think it will be yellow because of GumixRin, GumixLen and GumixLily versions of magnet xD) for the colored part, because it will make the whole thing more solid....but these transparent foil is useful too...AAHH I'll see that later there's still almost a year left until I want to use them xD
I'm from Germany sooo I'm afraid it would be too expensive xD I would need some until...Mai or April 2013 I just want to plan everything, for example, I already have a jacket to make a matryoshka hoodie for that day just to make sure I won't forget it xDD
Yeah, my sister already thought of making Luki and it would be really great I think, but if we made his "real outfit" (or Luka's) it would be a little bit too expensive, so we'll maybe do magnet together, we'll see
I didn't have much time neither, because my school is driving me crazy. It's been 3 weeks now and I could kill all my teachers for being on such a high level ^^" I'm happy that you're still answering me, after I already asked you so many things.
Oh and I wanted to ask you: are happy synthesizer and other Gumi songs your favorite or why do you make tutorials for the headphones? I'm just asking, because I love GUMI's songs like panda hero and it's a wonderful cat's life. Just something random I asked you xD

So sorry for a late reply, just come back from a con XD
Yeah what you've got goin' for the Magnet headphones sounds great!
Ah Germany! That's so cool! I just checked the Australia Post website though, and for Registered Internal Post (<2kg) is about $30AUD... which is expensive considering the headphones would barely cost that... so sorry! But yeah planning is always good!
Yeah Luka/Luki does have a bit of details on the costume. And Magnet always works well ^__^
Ohhh good luck with your schooling! ^__^
And nooo, please, ask as many questions as you'd like! I'll be more than happy to answer/reply/respond to all
Happy Synthesizer is one of my favourite songs, but I don't think I could pick just one favourite. I love so many songs (from various voicebanks) so much XD they're all so amazing. My favourite voicebanks though are Gumi, Kaito, Oliver and Lily ^__^
I made the tutorial for the headphones because I had to make 3 of them regardless and I had time to set it up, and they were quite simple to make. Though I didn't actually think anyone would use it XD But it's one of my most viewed devations LOL so I hope it's atleast helped someone XD As for the default Gumi tutorial, I've been asked several times how I made them and haev been requested quite a few times to do a tutorial for them. My original ones are really bad and I have no photos of them in making. So I remade them (gave them to a friend who cosplays Gumi so they'll get some use) and did the tutorial for everyone ^__^

Lightstar98 In reply to RadClawedRaid [2012-09-26 04:42:21 +0000 UTC]
Yeah, just like I expected...okay, I'll have to make them on my own xD
Mhm, Magnet is the Cosplay for all the lazy ones xD Or those who don't want to pay THAT much for a cosplay ^^"
ah okay, Gumi is my favorite at the moment, then there's Rin/Len and Iroha Nekomura (This girl from Hello Kitty ^^) The problem with vocaloid is that you have to know how to do it right xD There are so many people who made a wrong pitch or who make them sing off beat and so on, that's why you sometimes can't say : he's good/bad ^^
GUMI is awesome, of course everybody wants to have her headphones If I made a tutorial I would forget to photograph the single parts xD There would be: picture for the materials aaand a finished one xD
👍: 0 ⏩: 1
RadClawedRaid In reply to Lightstar98 [2012-09-27 13:47:06 +0000 UTC]
Aww okay! But remember please feel free to ask my any questions or for help if you have trouble making them
Yeah I've never considered Magnet for myself, I just have so many other ones I want to do XD
Gumi is just so amazing. I can't even. ALL THE GUMI. Ohhhh yeah the program, I actually have no idea how to use it. It's insane, so even when people may get it "wrong" it's still really amazing they got it to work in the first place A lot of work must go into every single one of them.
LOL some people do text based tutorials, but I find it easier if there is pictures and descriptions so that's how I do mine ~
