Description Always remember to tie your work and weave in the ends. Cutting too close to a knot can lead to the knot eventually coming undone. If you like, put a tiny dab of glue on the knot to further secure it a bit better.

What I meant by that, is after you knot the thread, instead of cutting it right close to the knot, which puts all of the tugging stress on it, thread the needle back through some of the beads for strength, and then cut the thread. It also helps to hide the knot a bit.

And thank you~!!!

XDDD Of course If you post piccies I'd love to see

The little warning thing at the bottom is so that people aren't trying to mass produce copies of my tutorial/mass produce products using my tutorial for a large amount of profit....like big companies and situations of that sort. It's not something for you to worry about

Dunno about you but my hands would be pretty sore if I were to make a million...and I think I'd have the cupcake a half inch from my face as I went blind from staring at them for so long

Peh, I can't stay serious for long enough to be in a big company, so there you go. xD
Okay, maybe not a million...just like nine hundred five thousand.....

MythrilAngel In reply to VanillaKnight [2010-04-05 23:10:27 +0000 UTC]

Neither can I...I can be serious when I need to be, but I'm more of a: "being serious all the time doesn't mean you are an adult/mature" type of person. I personally thing we are adults when we acknowledge responsibility and hold onto our inner child for dear life : P

I your cupcake making efforts...a small army of beaded cupcakes : D

I've read them^^
I loved the one with the star, is very well explained and the result is very cute~
About the other one, I think it's too basic, but is very well explained too, and it's great for begginers.
Congrats!

Thank you for taking the time

There really isn't much on the net for beginners to get started in their beading skills with...it's always part of a tutorial then pay money for the rest, an fancy ad which then asks you to pay, steps are skipped, they expect you to already understand everything, or the tutorial itself is just too hard.

When I first started with beading, I was just sitting with some thread and some beads, making random circular patterns, because it was something easy to do. Then as I started searching the net...I found tutorials, but it was as if they were guarding secrets by not explaining everything, so it took hours for me to translate their cryptic message

I was actually planning on redoing my tutorials to make them even easier...and I still may rephrase certain parts, add more images, tips, etc, but I think I'll leave them be for now

You talked about making this into a necklace? I don't know if this would work, since I fail at beadwork (I just found this incredibly awesome cute and intriguing) but couldn't you find a way to get a really thin necklace and thread it through the red bead, then add a clasp to each end?
I like helping

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

MythrilAngel In reply to katieblueeyes [2010-04-04 15:02:51 +0000 UTC]

True

I was thinking of setting something up so it would connect to either side of the cupcake frosting or wrapper. I tried making a connection on either side of the large red bead and no matter what I did, it looked kind of tacky...so I've been trying to figure out alternate ways to do so @_@

Wow, these are really cute - thank you for sharing this in tutorial form! I'm trying to make a few, but I've never tried beading before so I'm a little lost. I had a few questions if you get a chance:

1. How much thread should you cut for each cupcake?

2. Do you need to make a knot somewhere? Or if not, about how far away from the end should your first bugle beads be placed?

3. When you say "tie off your work and weave in the ends" how exactly does one do that? <--*obvious beadtard is blazingly obvious*

Good luck on working out a necklace plan - these would make cute neckwear or earrings ^^

You're welcome

No worries about not understanding this right off...the tutorial itself was tough for me as the maker to even organize. I am hoping to go back and include more steps sometime in the future, now that I can see the tutorial and I know where I can add more in to make it more helpful

For the length of the thread, pull it out as far as your arms can stretch...a little inaccurate, but it works. I'm short and have a smaller arm length and I always end up with extra

Usually what I do for tying off the beginning, is when I start the tutorial I leave about two finger's length of thread at the end. As I weave the thread in and out of the silver bugle beads, it pretty roughly holds it in place, but remember to pull tight at the end; not too tight as the bugle bead edges seem to like to cut the thread.

As I connect the two ends of the silver bugle bead strip, I weave the needle through as normal, and once that is done I weave it back through so it is right next to the tail of thread I left, and tie the two together tightly in a knot.

I take a second beading needle and thread it onto the tail left over and thread it through until I cannot do so anymore (from lack of thread), then cut the thread flush with the last bead it is coming out of. This is what I refer to as weaving the ends in. And usually because of the thread already threaded through the holes of the beads previously, it is a tight fit and holds the end firmly there so it will not slip out.

Tying off my work means to tie a knot around a tiny length of the thread in between the beads; I usually tie a knot two to three times in a row to ensure it will not come out. The weaving in as I mentioned, relies on the tight fit caused by the thread already threaded through the beads, so that when the remaining thread is ran back through the work, it is held tightly in place

I am trying to figure out a decorative way to do so...it's a bit difficult because if I thread the needle through the red "cherry" bead in order to bead the loop...it looks a bit odd, but I'm sure I'll get the hang of it eventually.

If you have any more questions, or did not understand my answers, let me know and I can reword it in a different way

Wow. I would try to make one, but it just seems too complicated for me. Working with such small things is not a talent of mine, hehe.

But maybe I will give it a go one of these days. I'd love to have a whole army of little mini beaded cupcakes!

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

MythrilAngel In reply to Ember-Eyes [2009-06-07 03:52:52 +0000 UTC]

-laughs- that would be interesting, cupcakes on the march~!!! Pardon by bad pun XDDD;

I did the best I could to one-handedly photograph the tutorial step by step...but had I included every movement I made it would have possibly ended up being ten pages long. So working with the idea that the viewer remembers the techniques from the previous pages I was able to shorten it a bit.

Someone on dA has a simple one picture illustration to the "Ladder Stitch"; maybe if I would have done something of that sort I could have eliminated a bit of the confusion. Although I will say, a lot of the threading back through is just for added strength and getting the needle where it needs to be for the next step, so it possibly made it sound more complicated than it really was @_@

I personally am trying to find a way myself to add it to a necklace or whatever else...but a beaded ring coming out of the "cherry" on top is just a bit tacky...and a metal ring would have to be really thin for the specific red bead I used and large to go around the overall circumference...I'll figure it out somehow, it would make a good birthday present to give out
