Description Here is my first wire wrapping tutorial!

This tutorial is meant to give people a first step towards advanced wire wrapping, which is why I call it a 'beginner advanced tutuoral'.

I certainly didn't get results like this my first try, so don't get discouraged if wires aren't lining up for you, or are bending in a different direction than you hoped! Sometimes you have to follow the wires, even if you end up with a different design than you had in mind.

If you do make something with this tutorial, please leave a link in the comments - I would love to see what you come up with!

Here is a finished photo of the piece I made in this tutorial: [link]

Looking for a store that sells square and half-round wire? Here's where I shop:

Gold filled, Argentium and sterling silver, and silver filled
Antiqued brass and coated coppers
Brass and copper

--------------------
If you like wearing this style of jewelry but you don't like making it personally, I do sell my jewelry at my etsy store, and I take commisions

Wrap on!

I've fought so hard to make my wraps ... sometimes it takes me many tries (would hate to have that happen with SS)  I would love to know of a good place to get sterling silver at a reasonable (or cheaper) price.   Chain, wire, findings etc.   I

If you're worried about costs for metals and you want to practice, there's some links to brass and copper wire (as well as silver/gold filled) in the description, and you can switch to sterling once you're more comfortable. Silver has a minimum base price since it's a traded commodity!

Hi!
I liked your tutorial very much and I'd like to translate your tutorial into Russian, so that people from Russian-speaking countries can also make such beautiful things. May I translate it?
I'll write that it's your tutorial and give a link on this page of course!

Thanks so much for this tutorial but presently I have square wires .8mm with me ,is it alright for this kind of project?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

innerdiameter In reply to ginamed [2013-01-09 03:17:27 +0000 UTC]

I usually use .65mm, but .8mm should work similarly. You might have to use pliers more and fingers less, but that's okay

Cool! I see you've already started! I would recommend investing in some square and half round wire - it makes the whole process easier.

Jessicapilot901 In reply to innerdiameter [2012-11-20 23:22:19 +0000 UTC]

How small can the stone be that you can wrap.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

innerdiameter In reply to Jessicapilot901 [2012-12-01 16:43:51 +0000 UTC]

you can wrap things that are as small as about 10x12 mm, but it's easier starting out to work with bigger stones.

I'm glad it helped! We started from a tutorial that was something like this, and we made some pieces that looked exactly like the tutorial before branching out and coming up with our own ideas.

Your fingers get a little tougher with time, but they're still a lot softer than metal!

atheybee [2012-07-02 00:15:50 +0000 UTC]

Where do you buy your wire?

I've tried michaels, a craft store around here--but the wire they sell is really expensive and they don't have all of the gauges/types of wire I'd like (flat, half flat, soft/hard, etc.)

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

innerdiameter In reply to atheybee [2012-07-02 01:20:29 +0000 UTC]

I've never seen anything besides round wire in physical stores.

I get my silver and gold-filled wire from [link] , and copper/antiqued brass from [link] .

Parawire only has 21ga half-round and square, but the price is right!

So good and helpful tutorial and it looks clear
Can you say, if use round wire it will be comfortable?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

innerdiameter In reply to Tegero [2012-06-06 06:16:03 +0000 UTC]

You can do it with round wire, but it will be much more difficult. The wires won't lay flat against each other, and step 7 won't work at all.

Square wire will be neater and easier. I buy mine online because no stores sell it.
