Thanks! I caught this at just the right time of the day. The water there was usually very gray and murky, but the sun was just perfect to make everything light up for this shot. Glad you like it!

Thanks! I've always been a sucker for reflections, myself. When you have really strong lines and repeating patterns like in this shot, a good reflection can make a decent composition fantastic and a lot of fun to look at.

Thanks! They certainly are -- critically so, in fact. You can read more about them on their IUCN Redlist Page:Β  www.iucnredlist.org/details/89… . Very cool animals.

Beauty!
Interesting thing about them; despite the huge number of fangs, they're actually quite harmless to humans unless frightened or otherwise provoked. They're fish-hunters, not made to kill larger things like humans.

I like this shot! This creature looks really scary because of reflection! Its mouth seems to be opened and it is like looking directly at you!

Gharials are so interesting-looking. Would love to photograph them but the zoos here don't have any. Anyways, great shot of the reflection & the eye. Didn't know it was such a beautiful green.

robbobert In reply to euphoricmadness [2014-01-14 06:45:34 +0000 UTC]

Thanks. I'd been trying for years to get a decent gharial shot when this opportunity presented itself. Seems that as interesting-looking as gharials are, they just don't translate well to film. Best of luck finding some in a zoo near you though. They really are a sight to behold.

this picture is kinda disturbing <_< not in a bad way, it's a great capture but at first I thought his mouth was opened then I realized it was the reflection and then I looked closely and it seemed like his head was opened or so Β

Thank you kindly. They're so oddly shaped that it makes them difficult to get a decent shot of, but they really do make for some great geometry when the lighting is right.
