Description
I recently went on a trip with a few professor and grad students at my university to an Air Force base to catalogue wildlife. We wanted to catch a lot of mammals (that was our main intention in going) but it's been a bad year for mammals apparently, so most of what we saw was either frog, snake, or spider in origin.I know that this is a water snake, and a young one at that, but I'm not sure what the species is. Cute little guy though. He was hiding under a rock right on one of the lakes we searched.

and dont call me a prick, you are the one automatically labeling any snake you think you know half a dime about as dangerous. You are giving snakes a bad and harming their reputation name by doing so and spreading your non-knowledge about them. tons of people are still deathly afraid of snakes, and you are only hurting the situation more
so dont

wow, that's cool that you're brave enough to hold a snake (some people aren't)

I didn't have to hold this guy (otherwise, I wouldn't have been able to take the picture), but I guess as long as I know what I'm doing and whether or not the snake is venomous, I don't have any problems.
