Description Recently I'd been inspired by all the great stylized, geometric minimalist move poster designs I'd been seeing through places like Mondotees. I'd just come off a project with Drell-7 drell-7.deviantart.com/ doing a cooperative concept design for the Leonov drell-7.deviantart.com/gallery… as described in Clarke's excellent 2001 sequel novel, not as seen in the movie (which does not match the book). So I thought, "Why not try a minimalist poster design of 2010 remake that's accurate to Clarke's novel. This was the result. And naturally I had to add my Dream Team remake credits

Photoshop.

I am not as up on the design of the LEONOV-I as all of you are. Is the ship in your poster the original design of your interpretation of it? Contact by e-mail if you wish.

It's our own version, based on the book not the movie.

This is a really good one. Although I can't conceive of a remake of 2010, it was still left field for the 80's. BTW, who'd you have in mind for David Bowman? Take Keir Dullea's head and 3D it from dust particles like the book?

Yup... CG would be the way to go with Bowman.

And the voice?

Keir can still do the voice.... if we act fast enough?!

Damn right, we lost Rain and Clarke already. (Kubrick doesn't count, since he didn't want to do a sequel). We keeping the Ligeti and Strauss and ditching the synth music (which I actually kinda liked myself) too?

I'm with ya on the music

Actually, Douglas Rain is still alive. Also, what's wrong with synth music? I mean, in the hands of a master, a synthesizer can produce sounds and textures that no other instrument can. Unfortunately, the music industry seems to think that the instrument is fit only for low-grade pop musicians rather than professional composers. That's why we rarely ever hear them in film scores nowadays except as a background element.

Indeed, Rain IS still with us.

Feels like a book cover to me. For an arty reprint, like an anniversary.

I'm glad you like it! I almost didn't post it. When it debuted it got real luke warm response, so I figured it wasn't clicking with anyone but me.

I like both designs for the Leonov, film and book.

Yeah, I'm not sure how many times I've read the book. More than five, less than ten, I'm guessing

Roshan as Chandra is spot on...at the time I read the novel, I pictured Vijay Amritraj from that tv show What a Country (which stared Yakov Smirinov also in 2010: TYWMC) (Damn talk about six degrees of seperation!!!)

But you can't top Hellen Mirren's performance...even though Jodi Foster would be cool. Can she do Russian though?

Oh about the pic...cool.
