Description A Space:1999 scene as a new pilot trains through the local nav beacons surrounding Alpha, shadowed by a safety escort.

A little fun with Greywolf Starkiller's new Eagle model for Poser and DAZ Studio. A really fine piece of modeling! DAZ Studio and Photoshop image. Background by NASA and the American taxpayers.

This is really excellent, you set the light perfectly ! Congratulations!
This NASA photo is very impressive... Could you give me a link to the original ? Or at least, let me know of what probe, mission or shot date it is. Thank you !

Oof! It's been so long since I dig it up I forget what mission/program it was from. But I'm sure that you could scare up some images of similar quality in the NASA image archives?

Ah... Well, I have browsed a lot of Moon photos and I can't remember seeing such a clean perspective close-up. I'll search for more then !

One of my favorite SF craft, from one of my favorite SF series. I love all the NASA pics of our moon, but this addition to it makes it even more endearing to me. I even like your back-story to go along with it.

The Eagle sure is a rare design, having lost NONE of its appeal since it was rolled out in the 70's.

Oh yeah... Ooops! The art and NASA provided background are great too!!! BTW I just picked up and am reading the HAYNES History/Tech Manual on the Apollo 11 spacecraft and I love it dearly! IMHO I think it's one of the must haves in any space program fans collection. I have a fair number of books already on the American Space program and this still managed to come up with photos, info, and presentation that was impressive. Have you by chance seen or read this one yet?

I've not seen their A-11 book, but I'll try to take a closer look. I think it's been in my Amazon wishlist for a while. Thanks for the mini-review!!

At the rate Eagles were being crashed, some new pilots were definitely needed! Hopefully the Alphans had a way of manufacturing new Eagles too!

Nice, never realized how the Eagle would blend in with the lunar surface. The era when you could have your spaceship in any color as long as it was white...

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 2

CR99nut In reply to Deepblu742 [2013-08-02 06:37:39 +0000 UTC]

If I recall correctly, the producers and/or SFX modelers deliberately made the Eagles and other Earth-based craft white/monochrome, much like the exteriors and interiors of Moonbase Alpha. The alien ships were made in any/every color EXCEPT white, to show how 'alien' they were at a glance. (Alien craft also rarely bore any resemblance to any Earth-based craft for the same reason.)

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Deepblu742 In reply to CR99nut [2013-08-03 01:33:28 +0000 UTC]

Mmm, that era that was inspired by 2001 space odyssey whose designers imagined a future full of functional NASA no-nonsense ship designs replete w/ cold yet stylish post-modern style interiors. The aliens always had to rock the flamboyant style eh? Interesting....

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

CR99nut In reply to Deepblu742 [2013-08-03 04:03:56 +0000 UTC]

Even moreso in Season 2... in the difficult-to-watch (for me anyway) episode "The Taybor," the alien ship is a fiery yellow, orangeΒ & red and even sports flame decals! (Granted, it was supposed to belong to the flamboyant title character, but wow.) That ship and an (illusory) alien tank that appeared in that ep were very "Chris Foss" looking. (Which leads nicely back to Arcas' comment below...)

RobCaswell In reply to Deepblu742 [2012-08-14 20:08:21 +0000 UTC]

Yeah, Chris Foss was kinda stand out back then as he postulated an SF future that contained colored paints.

And I think my brother had this starship as a model?
Where is that from? It isn't a real existing one, right?
However....it looks pretty documentary and real the way you've used it here. I guess you got some inspiration from the Mars, lately
Nice shot anyway

It's from Space:1999 (circa 1975), so yeah - it's fictional. But you definitely saw through to my inspiration! The Mars landing left me wanting to do something that felt more "real"

It had a different name over here, and I never saw that show.
