And (finally, right?) our awesome contender appears. I was really struggling with Moscorn at first (bone structure = ???) but now that I've done more pages with him I really enjoy drawing him. For having only an eye to work with, he's a shockingly expressive character.

The bird motif on (Phantom) Sophia's armor is from a discussion on Mugorivs religion. ~Rillid explained to me that:

"As the Mugorivs worship strength, the animal that they worship most are birds, admiring their ability to break free of Gravity.

In fact, the Mugorivs afterlife myth is that when someone dies, a swarm of birds descends on the body, and each one tears a piece of it's soul away, but only if it's a good trait, such as courage or intelligence or honor. The less desirable traits are left to rot below the ground.
From the soul fragments from several different dead Mugorivs, the flock constructs a nest, from which a new baby is born, inheriting a whole slew of characteristics from possibly hundreds of different warriors, poets, and builders." You can read more about that here: [link]

I have no idea if Moscorn is familiar enough with Mugoriv customs to know this, but I though it was a beautiful image and wanted to include it. I love that Rillid has such richly developed societies for his characters. It gives me so much to draw on!
