The board was set. The pieces arranged. The white King took his place in his throne behind his pawns, all forced to die for him. The black Queen sat crossed-legged behind hers, a smile on her face for the excitement of the coming blood. She waited for the white King to make his move.
First, he ordered out the knight in red armor, who would lead the fight. The Queen smiled, then moved her pawn in a blue dress. The King sighed, "You just have to be cruel, don't you?"
The Queen's smile broadened, "Of course, Santa." The King ignored the comment and moved his next piece.
"How long do you plan on keeping this up?" he asked, a few more turns in the game. The Queen took a pawn.
"Why stop the fun?" she giggled. The red knight took her rook. She pouted, "Awww, you're mean." The blue pawn took down the other knight.
"I'm mean? Look at you." He swiped another or her pawns off the board.
"What are you talking about?" Another giggle. "I'm cute!" The blue pawn neared the red knight. The King snorted, planning his next move.
"Now that is merely an opinion," he said, another pawn falling.
"At least I'm not old. I'm surprised you don't have any wrinkles!" She smiled down at the blue pawn, her teeth shining. The blue pawn slowly moved, then attacked the red knight. For her Queen, she'd kill anyone.
The white King stared at his fallen knight, then looked across at the Queen. "Oh dear, I'm so sad." A bishop in a white coat flashed across the board, taking the blue pawn.
The black Queen stood as the blue pawn fell in a pool of blood. Her face was blank, her eyes showing fury. Her fingers twitched on the handle of her axe as she slowly looked away from her blue pawn to the white King. A smile was on his face. Her decision for the next move was planned.
She jumped into the game, her axe swinging. Blood stained her dress as white and black pieces alike were torn apart. Her giggles, turned into laughter full of madness. Blood covered the checkered floor. She came to the bishop in white. His death did not come quickly.
The white King smiled as he heard the bishop's screams. The remaining pawns lined up in front of their King as the black Queen neared. He knew they would do no good. "You will serve your King well…" he murmured. His other bishop, covered in ice, took the lead. She detained the enemy Queen for a while, but in the end fell along with several others.
The black Queen saw the King, her lust for blood and revenge unquenched. Their eyes met, and he smiled. The fire eye flared. His white pieces screamed, bursting into flame. They staggered across the battle blindly, the fire spreading across the board.
The black Queen halted her assault as she was surrounded by fire. She could barely make out the white King through the flames. She laughed her laugh of madness. "This is how you want to play? I'm game!" She steadied her feet, pulling the arm holding the axe back. She gathered momentum, then threw it into the air. The fire suddenly burst towards her. Her laughter never died down as her body split apart into a million blue butterflies. They scattered across the board above the fire. Some were burned to a crisp as others made their way to the King.
He raised his eyes to the butterflies, his smile mirroring that of his enemies. More butterflies were burned, their bodies' dust before even hitting the ground. The black Queen's laughter echoed in his ears. He had forgotten about the axe.
The butterflies merged into one, forming the black Queen. She landed on top the white King. Small burned were scattered across her skin where the fallen butterflies would have been. The white King's eye flared. The axe fell into her hand. "Checkmate."
Blood splattered her face. The white King's head fell against the back of his throne. His hands still clutched the arms. His eyes were blank, then the fire died.
