Description
The dragon ran. Its steps were uneven. There were short bursts of flight, ending quickly because the wings would not flap in unison. One of the dragon's heads roared in frustration. The dragon crashed to the ground, the wound on its chest becoming unbearable. The dragon's skin shuddered and shifted splitting in half. It formed into two people, a man and a woman.
"Please, Cray… we have to stop… I can't go any farther…" the woman gasped, falling to her knees, clutching her chest.
Cray knelt down, summoning his obsidian sword. "Shiron, we have to go."
"I can't! I-" She stopped short as laughter flew through the air. Cray stood up, his senses alert.
"Go, Shiron."
"But… he's coming… I can't-"
"Go!" Cray yelled, pointing away from the laughter. Shiron got up shakingly, the cut under her collarbone stinging. "Go. That wound will heal," Cray murmured more gently. Shiron nodded slightly, then turned and ran off. Cray watched her go, then turned back to the laughter.
"Oh, now was that smart? You know you're nothing without her." Cray turned, searching for the voice. All he saw was darkness. "Isn't it sad? She's such a burden but you're only half of a whole, you only have half of your powers." Laughter again. "You really think you can beat me with only half?"
"There's only one was to find out…" Cray murmured, searching through the darkness.
"Come now, be reasonable. You are nothing. Weak. Without Shiron over there, you're practically pitiful. Thinking you and your little sword are a threat. Tsk, tsk, tsk." Cray jumped back as a sword swung from the shadows. "Ah, very good. You may prove yourself yet." Cray blocked the next blow, then sliced the darkness. Laughter floated away, upward. Cray stepped back, waiting for the next attack.
"She cares about you, you know. Like a brother. I think she has the deluded idea that you may even return the feeling. Wouldn't that be cute? Brother and sister working together to make a dragon fly. Well… I suppose that won't be happening, seeing how you see her nothing more than a copy of yourself, personifying your weaker traits. Why then, may I ask, does she have your name, while you're stuck with the last?"
Cray said nothing. He circled the small clearing, looking for his opponent. He moved the shadows away from him, clearing his view. Try as he might, he could not find his opponent.
A scream ripped through the air. "Shiron!" He ran towards the scream, his heart pounding. She could not die. No matter what, she cannot die. The shadows coiled around him, seeming excited by his energy. They parted to reveal his other half.
Shiron feet were off the ground, a man covered in black holding her throat. He looked at Cray and smiled. "We meet at last. My name is Lendax," he said. Cray stepped towards him, but Shiron's gasp as Lendax clenched her neck brought him to a stop. "What would happen if I kill her? Will I be killing two birds with one stone?" Cray said nothing. His body relaxed. Shiron's front was covered in blood; new cuts were on her arms and legs. Cray ignored the pain of her wounds.
"Cray…!" Shiron gasped. Her face scrunched as she struggled to breathe. "Please…!" She let out a cry as Lendax slammed her against the wall.
"Your pleading falls on deaf ears. He'll watch me kill you," he murmured. A sword appeared from his wrist and Shiron screamed as it stabbed into her stomach. Cray lunged at Lendax, his own stomach clenching. Lendax dropped Shiron and another sword appeared from his wrist. He blocked Cray's sword, then ripped the other out of Shiron and swung at Cray. Cray ducked, then flipped back as Lendax swung again. Cray blocked the next blow, then yelled as the other sword was jammed into his arm, hitting the bone.
"Why don't you turn into your dragon? Oh right, you need her," he said, smiling towards Shiron's limp form. He turned back to Cray, and twisted the sword out of his arm. Cray groaned and fell to his knees. Lendax slammed the hilt of his sword into Cray's head, knocking him to the ground. "I must say, I did have fun. While it lasted." He stabbed Cray's other arm, embedding the sword into the ground. Cray barely managed to hold back his yell, clenching his teeth. "Maybe someone will come save you. If not…" He shrugged. "If you do live though, make sure to come visit me. You dragons are excellent sport."
Lendax smiled, then turned away. Cray watched him disappear into the shadows, then all went blank.
