Description
Shisou walked through the woods, their branches bare. He had a firm grip on his swords, a chill keeping him on edge. He didn't know what it was, but something was watching him. The moon was up, throwing shadows all over the woods, a light mist on the ground. Shadows were good company, he told himself.
Ahead of him in the mist was a large bolder. He ignored it and was about to pass, when it suddenly moved. He brought up his swords about to attack whatever it was, when he realized it was a fellow Coven member. Cray sat on the rock, which was a lot smaller than it had seemed. He looked startled at Shisou's sudden appearance through the mist.
Shisou lowered his weapons. "What are you doing here?" he asked Cray.
Cray didn't say anything for a while, maybe wondering what he would say. "I'm… looking for Lendax."
Shisou had heard about the demon attacking several of the dragons. "You lost to him, didn't you?" he asked.
Cray looked angry for a moment, then his face relaxed, "Yes… which is why I need your help."
"Why me? What happened to Shiron?" Shisou said.
"You can control people's shadows can't you?" Shisou said nothing. Cray continued, "I can't… fight him by myself… and I don't want to have to worry about Shiron getting in the way." He hid his annoyance or embarrassment of this fact.
Shisou sighed, "I don't know if I can control Lendax's shadow. He survived fighting Drake, didn't he?"
Cray nodded, "But Lendax is shadows. It'll be-"
"Oh no, I'm not simply shadows." They both whirled around and there was the devil himself. He walked towards them, his white teeth shining in his grin. "You should know, Cray. Didn't I feel solid to you?" He was suddenly right in front of them and Cray barely managed to summon his obsidian sword to block Lendax's blade. Shisou came from the side, causing Lendax to flip back out of harms way. He landed on a branch of a tree, his black cloak billowing under him. "I see you found a more… how should I put it, useful friend."
Cray's sword burst into black flame. "I'll distract him, you get a hold of his shadow," he said quickly, jumping up after Lendax without waiting for a reply.
Lendax laughed, "Do I even have one?" Darkness shot from the branches and wrapped around Cray's throat, slamming him to the ground. Shisou began focusing on the shadows of the trees. They slowly rose up, looking like the phantom claws of some monstrous beast. They lashed out at Lendax's back, who suddenly pulled himself higher and higher into the trees branches. Cray was pulled after him, hardly able to breathe with the darkness still around his throat. Shisou swore under his breath, focusing more on the shadowed branches as they tore after Lendax.
Cray opened his mouth and black fire burst from his throat, absorbing the darkness. The hold of him was gone, and he began to plummet, his head swimming with the lack of air. Lendax slammed into his chest, speeding both their progress back to the ground. The shadowed branches suddenly came up at them, swallowing them into darkness.
Lendax broke out of the shadows, landing neatly a few feet away from Shisou. He smiled as Cray hit the ground hard between them and didn't get back up. Shisou was about to check if he was still alive but Lendax flew at him, twin blades gleaming. Shisou blocked just in time, then took a step back to make more room between him and the demon. "Poor Cray…" Lendax began. "He can never find a suitable partner, can he?" Shisou ducked as a deadly blade whizzed over his head. He flipped back, not being able to counter Lendax's continuous attacks. "I'm very disappointed in you two…" Shisou ignored him, and sliced at his chest. Lendax spun, his cloak sending the blade off course. Shisou was suddenly thrown back, his swords flying from his hands. He dodged, then ran for cover as Lendax pursued him.
He slid down next to Cray and shook his shoulder. "Get up!" he hissed. Lendax suddenly had Shisou pinned to the ground. "Very disappointed…" he said smiling. He brought up his blade to stab down into Shisou's heart, when suddenly Cray's sword slashed across his back. He stumbled back and Shisou scrambled to his feet. Cray was on his feet, holding the sword, his breathing uneven.
Shisou's shadow split from him and flew to Lendax. It circled around the demon as Lendax began to rise. He frowned at the shadow then looked up just in time to see Cray jumping up, his sword raised above his head. Lendax chuckled to himself. When will they learn?
Cray slammed his sword down, hitting nothing. He looked up and around. Lendax was gone. He and Shisou exchanged looks, the demon's white smile imprinted on their eyes.
