The Gump, introduced in the book The Marvelous Land of Oz. At one point, this was going to be part of my Dorothy/Ozma piece, hanging on the wall behind them: www.deviantart.com/rocketdave/…

I sketched this thing out before worrying that maybe his presence in that picture would be too distracting and come across as too comical. But I decided to finish the drawing of the character anyway, just for the heck of it. Was I right to leave him out of the Dorothy and Ozma pic? Should I do an alternate version with him in it? Well, it may be too late now.

I tried to be as faithful as I could to John R. Neill's illustrations, but I can see why when Disney made Return to Oz, they redesigned this guy to be more moose-like. I don't understand what is up with that pointy, curly nose. It's pretty strange.
