Here's the drawing I did to celebrate "Project A-Ko" turning 20 a couple days ago. As I've mentioned before, "Project A-Ko" is the thing that got me interested in anime in the first place. I caught this movie late one night on the scifi channel, back when they used to show anime, and I was instantly hooked. It's not just one of my favorite animes, or favorite animated movies, it's one of my favorite movies, period.

I haven't done A-Ko fanart in a while, and this maybe isn't my best work, but I wish my artistic skills had been this good back when Central Park Media had re-released the movie on DVD. They did this fanart contest in which the 10 best submissions were included as one of the many extras on the disc. I was one of the winners, but my entry was just so crappy, I'm almost embarrassed it's on there, which is why I haven't bragged about it before now. On the other hand, I can't deny that it does feel sort of cool to have contributed, even in such a minor way, to a movie that had a fairly big impact on me. Plus, I got a free DVD out of the deal. That was the first DVD I ever owned.

So, if you happen to come across the remastered edition of "Project A-Ko," you can see an example of my crude early work buried among the bonus features. However, I wouldn't recommend checking it out for that reason, but rather, simply because it's such a fun movie.

Coincidentally, it's a pretty big month for A-Ko's dad, since just a week after her movie turned 20, he makes his long-awaited return to the big screen.
