Description fractal manipulation.

pieced together from pieces of fractal created using apophysis and then all put together using photoshop.
the dashed lines and a fe other faint star shapes added using photshop brushes everything else is made from pieces of fractal

Edit: a twin to this piece as such can be found in my gallery here [link]

EDIT: DD! and a christmas eve one too! thankyou so much to all of you who this piece and comment and generally stop by
and a HUGE and special thanks to *heavenriver for suggesting it and to ^DragonWinter for featuring it

This is simply amazing! I'm so glad you got a DD on this!
I hadn't even thought of using Fractals that way!
It's kind of like delicatly spun glass!

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

rockgem In reply to Genisay [2010-12-25 14:42:31 +0000 UTC]

thankyou so much
i started working with fractals like this mainly by accident as i was beginning to get to grips with apophysis - as i was failing with that on its own i decided to take fractals into photoshop.
funny you should make a comment on glass - i was using a piece of mine titled 'wolflet' as an avatar on a messenger and a friend asked me where i brought my glass fox in my picture

Genisay In reply to rockgem [2010-12-26 18:53:01 +0000 UTC]

Haha! It's ironic sometimes the things that get mentioned and when.
Oh! Fractal work is something I'd love to be able to do one day. They are so pretty!
But I don't know where to find the programs for that, and I would be able to use them on my current laptop anyway. (Its a peice of junk, don't tell it I said so!)

rockgem In reply to Genisay [2010-12-26 21:49:14 +0000 UTC]

very much so - and something like this is pretty easy to be honest if you know how to use photoshop - i can give you a link to download apophysis 2.02 its not the most up to date version but its the one i use so you might well be able to use it - i work usually on my desktop but now i'm jsut getting used to working with photoshop on the new laptop.

Genisay In reply to rockgem [2010-12-26 22:29:23 +0000 UTC]

oh. that would be cool. i will at least have to save the link.

rockgem In reply to Genisay [2010-12-26 22:32:15 +0000 UTC]

ok here is the link [link] just click on downloads and then on the 'apophysis 2.02 link near the top of the list - there are a whole mess of tutorials in the resources section of dA and such so hopefully they will help

Absolutely amazing. So graceful and soft, the colours are so soft too... I barely could believe it was fractals at first.
Congratulations on this drawing, and on the DD. And merry Christmas too.

thankyou so very much for the compliment
each component is made up of fractals aside from the border and a few of the other little details such as the dashed lines some of the stars are 'hanging' on.
the luckiest part in the making of this was the shapes i used for her hands it came about with a random batch completely by accident
have a great christmas yourself

Eowulia-MornElda In reply to rockgem [2010-12-25 16:34:16 +0000 UTC]

Very often, the most unexpected things end up being the best-looking ones
This was a really lucky accident indeed
And I respect your skills with fractals. It's really great how you managed to build such a piece out of them. I always saw fractals as abstract creation only... You proved me wrong
Congrats again!

rockgem In reply to Eowulia-MornElda [2010-12-25 19:29:38 +0000 UTC]

i think most my art always begins with that element of chance. the more i dictate or try to dictate a result the more i am dissatisfied with the result - if i begin with a vague idea and almost let the piece 'create itself' then i find the results are far better
i always saw fractals as abstracts but i always used to watch the random batch results and i used to think well that shape looks a bit like an animal or a figure or something so tried to emphasise what i see better. i use apophysis somewhere between a little dabbling and 'cloud watching' almost

Eowulia-MornElda In reply to rockgem [2010-12-27 14:14:37 +0000 UTC]

I understand better how you create your art now, that's quite imaginative, I like the "cloud watching" analogy
Thank you very much for taking your time to explain it all! I'm really grateful about it.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

rockgem In reply to Eowulia-MornElda [2010-12-27 20:48:12 +0000 UTC]

its the best way i can describe it perhaps not the most practical method of working but it suits me.
and in general its my intent to write something of a tutorial (as i did this on my fractal manipulations for a magazine) but i haven't had the time to sit down and assemble one unfortunately hopefully in 2011 i might manage one lol

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Eowulia-MornElda In reply to rockgem [2010-12-28 14:56:03 +0000 UTC]

If you do one, I'll be more than happy to check it

And on a completely different subject, that made me see that I thought I had done so, but it seems I had forgotten to watch you, so now it's settled.

Thank you again for your time and explanations!
