Description
***Free to use, for non-profit/non-commercial purposes.***I drew this up for the current weekly D&D game I am running. This is meant as the hideout for a local gang known as the "Daggerlads". it's located under an abandoned industrial/warehouse district in the slums of a capital port town. That "blood pit" (south west corner) has some significance as a form of law for the gang of thieves that reside there. Members who challenge each other over disputes might take it to the blood pit. Outsiders who wronged the Daggerlads might find themselves facing it's justice. Whatever the reason you find yourself in it, if you do well enough, you might find yourself some lucrative (although shady) job offers coming your way. It is common for members to "showboat" their combat skills, in hopes that they might draw the attention of any spectators looking to pay handsomely for a strong arm... with a flexible conscience.
This is actually the first map I drew up, if I remember right. So, while it's not exactly how I would go about doing it, now, I still like it. You can tell I duplicated a lot of the assets to try and save time. I just wanted something fun for our game besides dry-erase markers on a chessex dry erase mat, so I drew this up... However, I'd definitely do things a bit different(aesthetically), if I was to do it again. Still, it was a good learning experience, for future maps.
***"NO CRITIQUE PLEASE" ***
I never intended to share my battlemaps here, and there's things I would change if I knew I was going to share them online, where countless experts can view and judge... So I am not really looking for critique. But while I am still learning how to illustrate the maps to read better, I felt like I would share them, here. If people like them, I may post more, because I have made a lot of maps, and I plan to make a lot more! Just keep in mind they are free, and were originally meant for just me and my friends to have a "pretty" set piece at our weekly game table.
***PRINTING METHODS***
Printing a map this size on one sheet requires poster sized prints, which is really expensive. It can run anywhere from $40-$100 or more, in some places. However, if you print them onto several sheets of regular printer paper and tape them together, it's much cheaper, usually only costing a few dollars. here's how I do it:
1. Download a program called PosteRazor. It's a freeware program that can output a PDF file that separates a larger image into smaller sections that can be printed on regular sized paper. Here's the link: posterazor.sourceforge.net/
2. Upload the map image file into PosteRazor, and choose your settings based on your desired output. You can select the papersize (I choose US Letter size), printer margins, overlapping size (for where individual sheets meet), image size/scale, and image alignment. The last step, once you have the settings how you want them, is to export it into a PDF document, for print.
3. Take/send your PDF file to your local print shop, and ask them to print each page of the PDF file on your chosen paper size (I use US Letter size). Paper size must be the same as whatever you chose in PosteRazor.
4. Take the printed sheets home and use a hobby knife and a ruler (or scissors, if that's all you have), and trim off the white borders where the image was not printed, on each sheet.
5. Tape the trimmed sheets together, where they match on the printed image.
6. Enjoy your map!

This cool map makes me ask myself: Who gets paid to build these secret hideouts like this? Is there a Drow house that specializes in evil lair construction at cut-rate prices, site purging included?

this particular hideout was the basement of a warehouse that was abandoned long ago. They just made sewer accesses and retrofitted the rooms a bit.

Ah dude that's super cool! That looks cool for a game. Boardgame or an old school style Diablo clone.

I have had people tell me that D&D should be just pencils, papers, and dice, but this is proof that battle maps and miniatures add so much to the game experience. Yours is a lucky, lucky group.

I think D&D works well in whatever way people want to play it. It all depends on the people at the table. I don't understand people who speak in absolutes, like that. XD
Thanks, I am glad you like my work! It's a pleasure to do.

I have played both ways and have had a good time either way. It just depends on how much you find fun putting into it.
About absolutes, I think it is part of human nature to form tribes and to be intolerant of those outside of the tribe. Look at music and it tribes of jazz, rock & roll, classical, etc. But it is just music.
Always glad to see your work. Looking forward to the next one.

Nope, I am doing exactly what I said in the description: Making maps for my Dungeons and Dragons game I am running. So I am not making a game. I am running a game, and making maps for it.

Do you draw these all by hand or use a specific program to help with the details like the tables and stuff? I've been hunting for a solid dungeon/map making thing.

I draw them by hand in paint tool sai.
