Description
Lineart by ~dinojack9000Behind the scenes of Sonic Generations was tense due to the hedgehogs' constant if not covert quarrels with one another. Many a' cutscene and promo photo was ruined thanks to their cunning ways of one-uping each other, as you can see in this example here
I'm really satisfied with how this turned out. ~dinojack9000 's lineart is bursting with personality thanks to his idea of the two Sonics acting as rivals rather than friends
"Sonic" and all other trademarks and trade names are properties of .

cool use of colour.I really like it! I do however think maybe you could've zoomed it out a bit though as the space seems very crowded - perhaps try not to cut off sonic's hand and spikes? Love the curved corners on it too. Gives it an edge (or not haha)

The hedgehogs are competing for space figuratively and literally. Since it's not the character poses that are the focus but the dynamic going on between them, I don't see issues with elements being cut off. Especially since they were cut off intentionally
Thanks for the feedback!

Since you were asking for critiques on your profile, I thought you would value my feelings towards your image. I gave you my thoughts of how your picture may look better (as it does already look very good). However - looking at it from an outsider's point of view and looking at it from a first glance - the fact that you had cut off parts of their anatomy - I feel that your work could have looked a lot stronger if you'd included those parts. Not one part of what I said made the point that you had done that accidentally. I was merely giving critique as you asked.

Hm actually, after looking over at my reply I understand your feelings.
I did in fact write you off, without realizing I had... but I did it all the same. Sorry about that.
I hope you can overlook my lapse in judgement up there, I'd deservedly feel like a hypocrite if I discouraged someone from critiquing me.

I'm not sure what the problem is? Did my explanation come across as biting? If so, I apologize.
Valuing a person's thoughts and disagreeing with critique are not mutually exclusive.

That modern Sonic "boosting" his tallness and his trademark smirk on the mutey ol' Sonic, love the sibling air here, and also love how they have their own blue, I dig these happy colors around em' too, you know how to use and balance em'!
Nice collab indeed!

I'm really glad you pointed out the fact that the Sonics sport their own blue colors! That's what gave me the most problems. For a long time, classic Sonic's shadows kept melding into modern's blue, and it took a lot of tweaking to get them both to stand out.
Thanks!

Ahhh Rontuuu all these collabs you're doing are so fun to see~ :'D Your style of painting fits pretty much all of them so well, I especially love the use of pink as the shadowing for the gloves, eyes, and skin areas Also adore the simplistic green checkered backdrop you chose, the hues go perfect with the brighter blues!~

Thanks Sapphi! There's lotsa small things I have to pay attention to when trying to color all these different style line arts, and it's pretty fun.
I used pink for the white areas?? ...wow, I did, didn't I? That's a new one. I didn't even realize
I'm glad you like the background, as simple as it is! It took a lot of experimenting and tweaking to get something that compliments the characters without being too distracting
Thanks again~

How do you get such smooth colouring with the lineless?
Do you lock the layers, or do it by hand?
👍: 0 ⏩: 1
rontufox In reply to red-ysetgo [2012-03-31 04:27:45 +0000 UTC]
I actually did it by hand until very recently, making clean-up horrendous The first time I tried layer locking was in the collab with ~FlashFireStorm . Also I used to only use two layers--one for the background and one for the characters.
Now though, I break down the character into several layers--base body color, cheeks+ears+arms, gloves+eyes, and nose+mouth+irises. That way I can shape and color the components easily without disturbing other areas. I usually lay down a really clean and shaped base color first, then lock the layer and shade it.

Sonic Generations is a great game, even though I find it to be short on levels and such. But still great.
