Search all the objects! Basic rule of video games: things are everywhere and dead ends always offer rewards.

unless you are exploring the underground caverns in AC3 in which dead ends actually don't seem to offer anything

Really? That breaks one of the fundamental rules of gaming! The blasphemy! XD Never disappoint someone by giving them something to ponder about and providing nothing.

well it filled out a map that you never had to look at again...
i think part of the point of the underground tunnels was to get you not to take those dead end routes but i had to know if there was anything on them... it proved tedious and accomplished nothing

SporeRedland In reply to RoochArffer [2013-01-22 16:00:52 +0000 UTC]
Why would the point be to not have you check them out? That's like making a fork in the road and telling someone they can only go left while leaving the contents of the right just out of sight. It nags at you, the not knowing. The same is true of the buried subway tunnels in Fallout; many are dead ends (literally, they are filled with ghouls and landmines) but there are a sparing few that lead to new areas of the collapsed city and you have to know or else tear your hair out "wall jumping" the Bethesda way outside trying to get over a pile of rubble.

it nagged at me the first time i went through an underground map. the second time... not so much...
that sounds very... time consuming and only slightly rewarding haha

There are multiple like this one in the game?
I know, but there's always that slim chance that you might find a new dungeon/building with rare loot or a quest, maybe even one of the coveted bobbleheads (as rare as gems of Berenziah) that permanently raise your stats. You just have to keep searching.

At first I thought you were making a pun because I have a friend named Chance who does, on occasion, mock people for things. XD
Ooh, they announced the expansion to Dragon'sDogma today. The full content. I've listed some of the bigger news:
- 5th tier for gear (above wyrm-forged)
- 3rd tier for abilities (including magic)
- 14 new passive abilities spread out among classes
- tons of new equipment
- item enchanting(?)
- more customization (no concrete details)
- new enemies (looks like upgraded versions; strigoi/vampire version of gargoyle) and fight demony dude
- unlimited ferrystones and 6 sets of new stuff for free
Oh, and it costs $40.00. 0_0

Apparently not. Just got more info today. It WILL NOT be available as downloadable DLC. It is an entirely separate disc, essentially a re-release of the game. I don't know why I bothered to go out and get the main game again; I should have seen this coming. Capcom has followed this exact route, releasing major DLC as re-released games, for the past 2 years and nearly all of their titles. MarvelvsCapcom, ResidentEvil, you name it, they've done this with it. I hoped for better. Price of main game now set to plummet as well as its worth. Oh, and production of original version of game is set to stop completely. Fun.

This business model can't work for them forever. I'm all for getting the additional stuff for this game, but I can wait until the price falls.
I just spent the better part of the last week reading the end of TheWheelofTime books. So much happiness and also sadness. The end of a series that went on for twenty years and that I've been reading since high school. The result is bitter but I am pleased with the ending.

Definitely good things. You wouldn't like some of the characters but nobody likes all of the characters in a book, especially when there are dozens upon baker's dozens of them. It is a dark series (not totally related to characters). I've always felt an odd sort of empathy for the protagonists and I'm going to miss their adventures.

oh there must always be characters that are not to be liked. i mean, i appreciate a good villain but some of them are just... they cannot not be hated

SporeRedland In reply to RoochArffer [2013-01-26 18:04:34 +0000 UTC]
Some are downright impossible to like and you find yourself filled with satisfaction and disgust when justice finally comes. Others are good people with the right intentions but they never see justice. There is one villain in the series that fills the role of likable bad guy; he is one of the strongest characters in the series, in personality and in power.
👍: 0 ⏩: 1
RoochArffer In reply to SporeRedland [2013-01-27 10:04:33 +0000 UTC]
disgust. yes. good word.
i do like likable bad guys. although ok, sometimes they are not that likable but i like them for some other reason such as they have a specific fault or just stand in contrast with any of the other characters in some way that i appreciate.

SporeRedland In reply to RoochArffer [2013-01-27 18:31:23 +0000 UTC]
They are memorable and you can, just maybe, understand part of where they are coming from. Sometimes you root for them when they are not entirely wrong. Or maybe it's their vibe, their characteristic intrinsic vibe.
Judging by the time dA says you wrote this, you guys were up late. I take it the Scrabbleathon went well?

RoochArffer In reply to SporeRedland [2013-01-27 20:58:38 +0000 UTC]
yes, memorable
but i dunno sometimes they're just scoundrels... i can think of one baddy i really likd that killed one of my favorite characters. i was horribly conflicted.
yeah we left around 1:30 i think... i was very tired =_= scrabble was fun. "manofsteel" and "zomgvulpix" both made it onto the board
👍: 0 ⏩: 1
SporeRedland In reply to RoochArffer [2013-01-27 23:30:50 +0000 UTC]
I think those are the best kinds of villains. It is easy to hate someone completely for what they've done but it shows a lot more effort on the writer's part if you can feel both sides; not just read and see both sides, but feel them. The same goes for characters that you feel a genuine attachment to when they die. Some are a loss you didn't expect and others are losses you didn't want.
That last word is unfair to the max. How many points is zomgvulpix even worth? I'll bet you could buy a small horse with that many credits. (and manowar would be acceptable)

RoochArffer In reply to SporeRedland [2013-01-28 01:24:14 +0000 UTC]

There was one guy that I always thought was awesome and a real hero, a sage who always followed through with the protagonist with the best of intentions, and he died a very ignoble death in the grand finale. Mind-controlled and then blown away in fire by one he would call his niece as he tried to kill her. I've decided to make a Skyrim character out of him; I used to have a character for him in another game (DynastyWarriors) from 2 or 3 years ago. I had a lump caught in my throat when he died.
I'm sure it was more credits than the cost of a Porygon at the game corner.

RoochArffer In reply to SporeRedland [2013-01-28 07:15:20 +0000 UTC]
what was he from?
oh and hmmm now i'm reminded of Thomas from Downton Abbey if you've ever seen/heard of that... i could not staaaaaaannnnnd him for the longest time and then they began revealing pieces of his tragic back-story and I was like, "nope. nope. noooooo pity. but... nope. oh but it's so sad. no. cannot think this way. but... buuuuut...... saaaaad" and now after several lumps in my throat he's almost onto my good side.
i believe zomgvulpix may have been one of the ones going off the board too so i am super not sure how it would be counted...

SporeRedland In reply to RoochArffer [2013-01-28 07:40:43 +0000 UTC]
Wheel of Time dude. Dry humor, loyalty, leadership and the skills of a masterful fighter, he was one I wanted to see make it to the end.
I do not know him but I think that is a sign of good storytelling. Empathy is hard to build.
Any letters that go off the board enter the Twilight Zone and so may be counted for any worth so long as it is a prime number divisible by 2 and 17.

RoochArffer In reply to SporeRedland [2013-01-28 08:00:35 +0000 UTC]

SporeRedland In reply to RoochArffer [2013-01-28 16:08:05 +0000 UTC]
He made it real close. Up until the last 200 pages of the entire series. Ah, but there is always a good line for a character's death as well. One woman, one that I did not think would ever be so much as hurt, was unceremoniously cut down and beheaded by her former officer, then he tried to perform a machete c-section on a woman that the dead one was supposed to guard; the dead woman came back as a ghost, killed all the traitors and shot arrows through the officer's eyes through the back of his head. (for the record, that is not the good part about her death; I can't say it without spoiling a lot and I realized that after writing this)
Yes. I thought about ending it with "primes divisible by 2" but that would make all of them 2 so I decided to follow the rules of the void and create a number the human mind cannot comprehend, like -i.

RoochArffer In reply to SporeRedland [2013-01-29 00:22:05 +0000 UTC]
so close and yet so far
that sounds very complicated haha, are all character deaths so dramatic?
👍: 0 ⏩: 1
SporeRedland In reply to RoochArffer [2013-01-29 02:26:33 +0000 UTC]
No. Most of them are pretty mundane unless they are a main character, such as a major hero or villain present for multiple books. Most of them go down like a sack of potatoes. One second they're fine and the next they're in a montage of lesser character deaths. I think more characters died in the last half of the last book than existed in the first book.

I'm reading a bushel of tragedies for my English class right now. Currently taking bets on who makes it to the end. Last one had 3 out of a dozen or so make it. And people have the gall to suggest that our culture's media today is more violent than it ever has been.
Most books today tend to shy away from the idea of death. They either don't portray it realistically *cough* Eragon *cough* or display too much of it *cough* still Eragon *cough.*

Very hard to be. Pretty much anyone who is immoral or knows anyone immoral will end up on a spit of sorts. Survivors of The Jew of Malta: no Jews, one Turk and a handful of Catholics. No Protestant characters were in the play.
Haha. How does that happen? You know, now that I think about it, there isn't much in the book to remember; there are a few key events but the story is otherwise unremarkable. My roommate and I agree that the book has the most easily predictable story ever.

It's cheating because they aren't in the play or because there were no Jews at the end of The Jew of Malta (also, they lied because there was more than one Jew to begin with)?
You should try reading it again and record the opening of the infinitesimal vortex that steals your memories. I recall dwarf jokes about dragon spikes being a good way to get castrated. I also recall Eragon's very limited vocabulary: pretty, elf, woah, magic, dragon, no. That's it. It rhymes.

There are meme videos for everything. It is the essence of the meme.
Or maybe it makes you feel like "yes, that is my goal and I shall be able to do that, too."
I could try that. I want to take it into the computer assistance building here on campus on Monday to get it checked into. On an unrelated note (maybe), an update for Civilization5 cleared all my saved data, including replays, multiplayer matches, records and preferences. At least I got to keep the achievements...

That's only a bad thing if the latter sticks more than the former. I find that it instills a desire to learn more than anything and so that shouldn't be a problem.
You must be forceful with your computer and teach it obedience to the meh school network.
After an extensive amount of digging, I found the game files. They are in a file by a different name (identical to new empty files in all other ways) shelved inside another area of my computer as inaccessible documents. How game files ended up alongside my school Word documents, I don't think I'll ever know.
