Description
Most people can't see it at first. It is the regular division of a plane. The surface is regularly divided into, or filled up with, similar shaped figures which are contiguous to one another without leaving any spaced.Related content

Technically stunning!! I have tried this a few times and always fail miserably.
Maybe you could give us a tutorial on this? (And then the complaining few might just get an idea why this got DD)

Christ, I am so incredibly sick of people being so audacious and downright rude by openly saying that a piece "isn't DD material." It happened with Forest Fire, it happened with Tenstone, and now it happens with this.
This obviously took a great deal of skill and I must say that it's the first tesselation that I've seen on Deviantart. Well done root, and to the haters, try making something that you think is "DD material" and we'll see whether it gets it or not

Not my style of art work but for you peeps like "goochtek", dont tell others their opinions are "stupid" lets try to keep this a happy community
Tell people WHY u think its what it is, not "this sucks".. explain.. mabey it does!
This is a slick peice of art , definatly took some planning, but its debatable if its DD material =[

and look at it more closely, its not just a simple triangular tesselation... it has more than one shape, multiple rotation points... very difficult

this is cool, tesselating is hard work
i think this would look better in other more varying colors... and who's to say if this isn't daily dev quality... i didn't know there were certain kinds of pieces that received it
coulda sworn it went to good works, and this is one

Forgive me for being critical... I've got a massive concussion and cant see out of my left eye (seriously)... But why daily deviation? It's a good tessellation, but the BEST tessellations (and the more difficult ones to create) are ones that appear to be something, like Escher did them. Tessellations are easy to pull off when they look nothing at all, just take a geometric shape that tessellates well, it seems to be a triangle in this deviation.. And modify one side of the shape. But, in modifying one side of the shape, you have to similarly change the other sides too. Escher made lizards out of octagons and birds out of slanted squares.. I guess the nostrils are a start towards more complex shapes? I just dont see the DD mark being well used..

Terrific

Yea, what realitysquared said. YOU try and create a complex shape, even one that doesn't have any clear meaning, and then getting it to fit like this.
The reason this got dd, as was stated, was for the technical ability, which is blatantly evident in this peice, and even more so in the one that someone posted a link to earlier (I liked that one better too).
And how you can be at an art site without knowing Escher boggles my mind. The reason his stuff is intresting to look at is because it twists your mind around, and make you think, wtf?! And this does that same thing in it's emulation of his stuff.

Okay, what all you complainers seem to be missing here is that there is a lot more than just copy-paste-rotate in two differant colors.
The technical skill is shown in the fact that the shape has been carefully crafted to fit with itself in serveral orientations- and do it seemlessly.
Try doing this sort of thing yourself and you'll gain an appreciation of how difficult it can be to achieve the effect.

rulian [2001-04-07 14:39:30 +0000 UTC]
okay, after studying this piece i've concluded that it is simply the same shape in two different colors repeated over and over arranging them in a manner it fits, okay, what's so great about that?Is that what escher style is?
I'm not trying to put you down, but I just dont get what's so difficult about copy-paste, >> rotate

not to say anything about anything, but I dont get what's so amazing about this, I guess it's because I dont know eucher or whom ever that guy is, but i dont think i would like him either, but if its good enough for DD then HEY, congrats
