It was one thing to trot around barrels, or rope fake cows. It was a completely other thing when a large black angus steak cow stared you dead in the eyes daring you to ask it to do anything. Okay, so maybe it wasn't so huge, and it wasn't a full size steer, but it was still huge to the seven year old who rode and the golden and copper horse who seemed to know vaguely what to do. At first the cow just lazily glared at him as he tried to urge it ahead of him, towards the orange cone. The calf bleated softly, snorting and snuffling at the dirt in the arena. Mark glared at it, urging Bengali to stand right behind the calf. It didn't care at all.
"Come on! Move!" He yelled, waving his arms. The calf glanced behind itself at the annoyed seven year old. It ignored him, only turning back to see the copper face of the stallion ducking at him- teeth bared, ears pined. The calf let out an earsplitting moo and bolted away. Mark grabbed onto the saddle horn as Bengali followed after.
"Sh---ugar!" Mark yelled as he held on for his life, having enough sense to grab the reins and at leas try to get the horse to guide the calf aroud the plastic cones. From the corner of his eye, he could see his mom standing at the edge of the arena, one hand covering her mouth. Great. She was never going to let him near a western saddle after this, let alone a calf.
Well... he wanted to be a cowboy.
What he didn't see was his mother covering her mouth to hide her laughter, or that she temporarily hid her face in Greg's shoulder, trying to hard not to let her son see her laughing about his first experience with a calf. The look of terror on his face when the calf started running had nearly brought tears to her eyes. If he wanted to be the rodeo king, well... he had a long way to go just yet.

He tries so hard! We definitely need more kids in the stories!
I would kill for a "university" for our younger harpg riders. Where they treat it like a public school- but the exceptions is that they can work online/ at home studies with no consequences, because they're traveling/training with their parents. Heck, even if some of the studies is horse oriented besides your normal math/english/science/history etc.
Optional uniforms(Houses maybe?)

Agreed!
That's kind of what I have my teen rider doing while he's out showing. Just online schooling and such :''D His little sister still has to go to school for socializing still yet but I'll probably do the same with her xD HARPG kids need more love :''D Tired of all these 16/18+ shows when I've got a 9 and 15 year old that are perfectly capable of riding xD We all know they exist irl! I'd love to have a youth circuit :''D

It's gotta happen one of these days.
Something low key / not super demanding. Like a sketch once a month for homework maybe. More for "extra" credit.
Rewards shouldn't matter, but maybe like a ribbon for Most Homework Done/ All assignments turned in, Never missed a day (month), Muddiest/ Class Clown types of things.

First of all I LOVE that Mark is seven! It is so realistic to see a kid running around the show grounds and makes me excited to be introducing my newest characters.
And that story is great steers can be intimidating especially if you are only seven years old.

Yush! There def need to be more kids in the harpg world, whether they're riding or just running around with cotton candy. Mark is a fun one, all pouty when he doesn't get to participate because he's too young (or he's somehow broken his arm or wrist because kid shenanigans) .
Thank you!
