Description
....But, anybody ever notice how similar these two are?If Locke were a human being, as he so desperately wants to be, that's pretty much what he'd look like.
This was just kind of a bit of a test for me to figure out how exactly Locke works. Since he doesn't have many facial features, or even make that many expressions, he's a little hard for me to pin down. None the less, I thought I'd make an attempt.
This actually still feels almost too emotive for him. Most of the time, I don't think he even really has that "mouth" going on. When he speaks, its just kind of a disembodied voice that comes from his direction. He has a poor understanding of how humans work, but has realized in studying them how important their expressions are in communication, and will, sometimes, mimic things such as "mouth" movements in order to try and communicate better what it is he means. However, it's not a completely organic reaction. He doesn't smile because he's happy, he smiles because he knows thats what humans do when they are happy.
Similarly, he doesn't need to breathe, but will mimic the inhalation and exhalation of breath because its a pattern that humans follow in order to be alive. He doesn't need to sleep, and indeed, kind of can't, but he does lie down sometimes, and simply meditate for long periods of time in a mimicry of sleep.
If none of this makes a lick of sense, please bear with me. Locke is really fun, but also a challenging character to create and work with since he's somewhat limited. (That is in many ways, appealing though.)
Also...I think Luca looks like he came out of an episode of Dr. Who in the 70's...
Mechanical and Color Pencil.
As always, this wierdo belongs to me. I've not quite got him pegged down yet, but his development belongs to me as well. As does the rest of "Scrivener and Shifte".

Can I steal him? Pweeeeease?? I wants him Luca is too freaking adorable! And I really like how similar his and Locke's expressions are, even though Locke kind of doesn't have one lol. He's so cute. I also like the sketches of Cosette and Luca/Locke. They're adorable! Locke seems a little taller than Luca. Is that true?

Lol. He just goes "How can I be stolen, I did not belong to anybody?" I'm so glad you like him, thanks for telling me. And yes, Locke is taller than Luca.

Aww, you're welcome, always! And we can make an agreement--I'll kidnap him lol. Then we avoid all the nasty "stealing" implications. Better yet, it's spontaneous adoption!!

Thanks! Lol XD. Lol, well we can try that! I do warn you though, Cosette and Currer and Mari and Nicky would have to bring out their big guns and start looking for their compatriot! XD Lol, but adoption would probably work just fine.

Thanks so much for sharing your development stages with us. They're like pages of a character development tutorial which so many artists in various stages look for.
I also feel that I am getting to know the character even before the first written page comes up.

So he simply "breathes" in order to make his human chums comfortable? I know id be a little freaked if he didnt breathe XD
I love the idea that his voice comes from a "general direction". Lovely ideas here hun, very original.
(though I can help thinking of spiderman in the side view XD)

I think his face is very expressive, even with the lack of normal human features. There's a lot of depth in his eyes. It reminds me of the way that the animators of "Naruto" are able make Kakashi (who wears a mask over half his face) very expressive with just his eyes (not that I particularly like Naruto or anything. Just an observation ). Great job! I'll bet that was hard to pull off.

Ahhh, why thank you! I knew I could get rid of a lot but I wouldn't be able to do anything if I didn't have eyes to use. Lol, thank you! I take your observation as compliment even if I don't know much about Naruto either. Lol, thanks, I'm still working on it.

Hehe! I think I've watch all of 20 episodes (out of a series that has a least 200, not counting all the movies o.O). Say, the first episode is hilarious. Not a whole lot of expression going on (it's not an action packed episode where he has to save a infant and gets beat up in the process yada yada blah), but still. Here's a link [link]
How's the story coming along? Last time I checked you had 45 pages done

Lol, yep, still have those 45 pages. They just need to have a butchering knife taken to them. Muchos editing to be done.

"Generally speaking, most cultures see a certain point to wanting to bury the dead in the nicest way possible so's to honor the memory of the deceased. When you tack on religion to this, you get very specific rituals that rely on the natural climate of the lands or a popular theory that predominates in society."
