At Northgate Farm in North Dakota. Lei set out for his final ride for the day on his steed, Royal Bastard...
It had been a long day. The gang was managing 4 horses, 2 that were fairly new to the crew. Lei and Dareen had handled Blight and Royal briefly before the show and had done some basic undersaddle work to ensure no one was going to acquire an injury at the show
Being what it was, Lei was fried by the end of the show jumping day. He had lessons with Isa, who was hard headed and flighty when nervous and Achates would reflect and amplify it instantly. Dareen had come to help but he was flightly and sensitive -- Lei figured Klias had talked something up to Dareen and he was bound and determined for some mission. It pissed Lei off that he got cut out of things as if he were a usless human with no self defense. No matter, he thought to himself, whatever it is it may have nothing to do with me, but I will definitely have my words with Klias next time I see him. His thoughts swirled in his head as he pulled back his hair once more and shrugged on his jacket.
He was grateful for how his comrades pulled together. It had been three years roughly since Lei's first time organizing a breeding with Bloodstone, now he was ushering in a new generation. It made him feel good knowing he was going to put a hand into shaping the next generation of his sport and the breeds he pursues.
2 PM rolled around, their time was 3.10 but Lei knew it was best to be ready and began walking Royal. The stallion followed Lei with a happy loll to his stride, almost alseep with the mellow bustlings of the show. The pair took their time to the wamrup ring once more, only working through the gaits and jumping enough to loosen Royal up and then stopping. Lei kept his horse warm through idle walking around the entrance to the indoor. Finally his name was called and he guided Royal into the large arena, the small crowd and the lights got the Stallion's attention and caused his ears to perk. He called out lowly for his friends and jigged anxiously when he was met with no response.
"Easyyy..This is a short round, then we'll go back and get some hay." The man ourred and patted his steed's neck with a gloved hand.
With a bow, wave, and a ring of a bell, they were off. Royal surely was flying, almost a little out of hand but with a half-halt and a touch of the reins the stallion rocked back into his hind and was able to prepare for the first jump, expertly tucking his front end over the jump and leaving the rails untouched. The stallion responded to the request with a surge of confidence, he knew exactly what this was and what to do, with a powerful leap the stallion eagerly made a long spot feel effortless and left Lei slightly flabbergasted and reeling. He spun back into what he was doing and connected back to his ride, keeping his leg and contact on realizing he was riding a completely different horse now.
Royal powerful glided thorugh the course as if he were weightless, Lei skillfully guiding him through turns and over jumps. The stallion rewarded the man's effort with a clean round, leaving no rails touched and keeping all hands on deck.
Almost as quickly as it had started, they had finished. Royal galloped out after the last jump, puffing to catch his breath after a speedy clean round. The stallion, quite full of himself, waved his flag as a tail and gave a spirited head toss and kick. Lei couldn't help but also enjoy himself as well, Royal had a sense of humour that was infectious.
