Rowye In reply to DraakeT [2017-02-16 10:04:26 +0000 UTC]

Thanks so much!! The tornadoes were a last minute decision, glad to hear they turned out well!

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

DraakeT In reply to Rowye [2017-02-17 17:44:04 +0000 UTC]

When the skill grow....there is a giant issue......we are obliged to raise even the details! This of course means also more time of work and sometimes also frustration to discover the right "detail image".
In this case the tornados creates a natural frame to help the description of the scene.....in this case catastrophic. They give also depth to the scene....I mean in this way with them the background is not flat....and i hate flat scene from people with excellent skills like you. So excellent decision.
Like in my last tomb raider, i use a note where i write all potential details relative to that topic and of course relative to the scene...So im sure do not forget anything!
In the time when i think to some new detail, i write it. of course the idea relative to the detail come even watching resources.

Rowye In reply to DraakeT [2017-02-19 12:20:43 +0000 UTC]

Exactly, I wanted to add something more to the scene, but that it didn't take away from the main scenario, just something to spice things up a little. Granted there is no real reason why tornadoes would appear when aliens are invading, but it does add to the catastrophe feeling of it, I'm glad to hear that it did turn out well!

As for the details... I wouldn't even try to get to your level. That's definitely one of your biggest fortes, it's quite amazing how much stuff you can get in an artwork and still make it all fit in.

DraakeT In reply to Rowye [2017-02-19 20:34:57 +0000 UTC]

haha yes, no reason....but when happen also in the movies is always cool...and this is the important. The rationality is useless in many aspects of these works.
To do these works with heavy resources is necessary only patience....and this require an ultra normal skill.
and i have no fear to experiment. Yes the only required aspect is have no fear.

Over the patience 4 years agoo here on DA i discovered how was possible go over the use of few resources...this thanks "the song". the holy grail was: learn the path relative the topic "Filling the shadows"
Whats happens if i don't use this? Happens this -----> sta.sh/02acou3nugdo Impossible manage heavy resources without this method!

The way of exposure...the same concept relative of photography. Because Ps at the end of all, follow photographic rules!
You know to filling the shadows the ways are many....like for example off set etc...

When i create the first layers...i create immediately an exposure level with a good off set + some curve to add or remove contrast....Done this, i can use even 10000 resources! Well of course balancing even their tones if required. But the master control exposure is vital for me.

Rowye In reply to DraakeT [2017-02-21 10:21:43 +0000 UTC]

Yes! I recently switched to Exposure controls for my lights and shadows and it works best. I had been using Levels & Curves and that is ok.. but it messes with the contrast and colors as well and it's a pain in the butt.

DraakeT In reply to Rowye [2017-02-21 21:10:13 +0000 UTC]

Yes that shit issue in Rgb is typical. In Rgb you attack the color and contrast at the same time. for this reason born your frustration
For this reason exist the method LAB.  I had studied it thanks Dan Margulis the father of color correction in Ps. I had studied all his books and all his tutorials...they are many indeed i had finished to study them in 4-5 years and all that for pure personal culture. This method do a separation between "colors" and "contrast"....in few words you can work independently on each single aspect! If you modify colors.....
The contrast remains blocked...If you want modify contrast, the colors will remains intact/safe!
Of course thanks this method you learn also to understand the quality of one image studying his Dna...thanks channels. Thanks channels is possible also fix the structure of the pixel of one image...in a way indipendent...this to preserve at max the quality of the image....etcc..etcc...

i had spitted blood to understand all those things. Why i had studied this method? One for personal culture and two because in those years i was learning Retouching. I born before as retoucher ---all my story ----> draaket.deviantart.com/art/Per… It was important study many method for me...to learn the infinite world of retouching....About retouch there is also an impressive confusion but this is another story

Well if you learn this concept you can dominate it, into an acceptable way  also in Rgb but the way and procedure in RGB is more long.

thanks a good balance of the colors and sometimes balancing also good the saturation....+  a correct sequence, i can dominate in an acceptable way contrast and colors....To describe better my words i show this example ---> www.deviantart.com/art/Tomb-Ra…
What mean correct sequence?  if i use before for example curves and then exposure ill have a different result respect if i use before exposure and then curves. Same speach if i use a random sequence of exposure, curves, color balance, vibrance, selective color etcc..even for this other reason relative to the sequence at the end i'll have at 100% an image messed!

These are delicate steps of my personal workflow...They are in my Dna actually so i use all them at the same time in automatic. Well normal!

The first tomb raider was my first work to use massive resources.........simply because i had studied a workflow also with the informations previously described.

On the net, you know, there is all....
Example one relative Dan: youtu.be/KhfRynutmQM?t=471
Example two, a normal user: www.youtube.com/watch?v=Y732q6…

but of course if you have questions also complex questions im here.

I had studied all for personal culture and for fun because this isn't my work....If you want become a complete artist and become a giant of the sector you are obliged to study these methods and the world of colors.
