Description
1) I took paper and wrapped it around my boot. Then I sketched where the lines were supposed to go for each piece. After I did that, I stenciled them onto my vynel that I'm going to use for the overlapping pieces of leather.2) here's what they look like cut out and sewn together. Now all's that is left is to paint them and attatch to the boot. :3
3) Her boots were so specific, I had a hard time finding them. They have that sorta boxy toe, a raised tongue on the front part of the ankle, and 2 inch, thick heel (which still leaves me 3 inches off Lightning's real height...). I found some perfect biker boots at Walmart. I think the hardest part about these boots was actually de-stiching the parts off that I didn't need. O_o; It's only when you do that that you realize just how well boots and shoes are made.
--- PAINT
--- I used black, raw umber, and grey acrylic paint to darken the boot to the right color. It may look extreme, but I follow according to the pictures i have. They're extremely dark brown boots.
4) While the paint was still damp, I took a cotton cloth and scrubbed away at it, going in a grid pattern across the entire thing. This let the original color show through and also give it a worn look. If you look closely at pictures of her boots, you'll see that horazontal/vertical pattern. Then I went back with a dark grey paint and added more grid scratches and "bruises". It may look a bit large here, but that's so they'll show up in pictures.
Then I went back and painted the rubber sole of the boots. Believe it or not, they're a light grey! I made about 2 coats of it, making sure to rub it in.
I know people have said not to use acrylic because it rubs off, chips off, or just plain looks bad, but that's only because it wasn't done right. If you add it thinly and rub it INTO the fabric/vynle or whatever, then it works rather well. :3
I'll finish these boots soon. When I do, I'll upload more pickies.

I have to ask... What did these boots look like before you altered them? Did they have a zipper?

They looked like your typical biker boots. No zipper. My sister actually owns a pair and that's what gave me the idea.

There is a specific type of spray paint that adheres to rubber and plastics. Just make sure to read the label. Goodluck.
