Maybe he becomes it when people see him while they're under the effects of his fear toxin.

Crane is a genius at manipulating fears even without his chemicals, and showed a fondness for sick social experiments on the unwary. He doesn't grasp trust and forgiveness as sensible human reactions - emotionally, trust and forgiveness are the antithesis of fear. In fact in "No Man's Land" when the Faith District forgave him and put trust in him after discovering what he'd tried to do, he totally lost it.

To Crane, other humans are a source of entertaining social experiments and are generally viewed with the same compassion as lab rats.

Too many depictions believed Crane is harmless without his chemicals. He's not.

Scarecrow. He doesn't NEED his fear toxin to drive men mad, it just makes the job much much easier!Β

Ah.

But for all that I still love the one B:tAS comics story in which Scarecrow escapes and tries to hide out at a small college where he teaches literature. He meets a lovely young woman who is brilliant at literature, art, philosophy -- to his surprise Scarecrow finds himself beginning to enjoy her company. And then her boyfriend does something awful to her, and she runs to Professor Crane for support.

Instead Crane decides to find out just what her boyfriend feels like when he's the one being made to feel fear. Batman shows up in time to prevent a murder.

Makes me imagine a TAS story where Calendar Girl, Clayface, and Baby Doll all break out... and Batman finds out they just wanted to act again, (all acting in the same film and amazingly DON'T try to murder other over top billing) though they're all too mentally unstable to be trusted outside of Arkham.

ardashir In reply to alexwarlorn [2017-06-21 00:46:46 +0000 UTC]

I could see it.

In fact they once did a story where Clayface was hiding out as the boyfriend of this lovely young woman. In the end when Batman caught up with him, he saw her nearby (waiting for her boyfriend to show up for their date), and rather than fight he just gave up quietly.

Hey Roy, who's your favorite actor to portray Scarecrow? It can be from a movie, t.v. show, videogame, whatever.

Roysovitch In reply to drawntogetha4ever [2016-12-16 01:52:25 +0000 UTC]

I liked Cillian Murphy's Scarecrow from Batman Begins and the Scarecrow from Arkham Asylum.
But if I had to pick an actor to voice him if E27 were an animated series, or even play him in a live action series, I'd pick Michael Emerson.

I would pick Jackie Earle Haley.

What do you think of Robert Englund as Scarecrow in Injustice 2? Easily one of the most genius casting choices ever and one of if not my absolute favorite Scarecrow performance ever.

For me it's;
1: Dino Andrade (Creepy, crazy, and maniacal)
2: Jeffrey Combs (Deep, Raspy, and scary)
3: John Noble (Booming, powerful, and intimidating)

Batman's whole shtick is to make people afraid of him. And here is a villain who can make you afraid of whatever he wants.

Technically it's really appalling as a practice to incarcerate somebody at an institution where they worked or in the same prison as somebody they have a former criminal partnership with - no wonder guys like Scarecrow keep relapsing.

I agree, though I prefer Scarecrow as being born anorexicly thin and lanky rather than average body type. Did you consider this originally?

Cranes and Strange in Arkham staff at the same time must have been a nightmare! XD

I remember that in Heart of Hush, they told us that Crane was also Tommy Elliot's therapist, since the child was interned in a reformatoryΒ after the fight at the camping...
I believe that this meeting has influenced a lot on the psyche of Hush... Β°_Β°"

Love the design for Scarecrow's costume. I'm assuming you took the noose from the DCAU, the disfigured(?) face from Arkham Knight and the burlap sack mask from the Nolanverse?
