Around 10cm\3.9 inches long (with size 11 seed beads). =ChimeraDragonfang 's dragons are about 6 cm long from what i remember.
Yeah, those wings will work. Both dragon and bird wings.

I'll be using size 8, so they would prolly be about 11-12cm, right? CDf's were about 7cm with size 8. Either way, thanks! because these are going to look so awesome, I can't wait! What do you recommend for threading them? What is best? What would you suggest for size 11, 8, and 6? Right now, I have beading thread, some regular silver tone 22 and 24g craft wire, and a limited supply of 26g wire in 3y spools and various different colors.

You are SO talented and I am honored to have met you here on DA ^_^

It doesn't have a fixed length, but i guess yeah, with size 8 it'd be aroung that long.
I use thread or fishing line for mine. Even for size 6 thread is good, just has to be pulled a bit tighter to keep shape.
Not sure about wire. Will be hard to keep it from tangling/bead holes might be too small(thread goes 4-6 times through one bead sometimes). You can put some thicker wire inside the legs to make them posable tho.

Hehe thanks

Great, thanks My first/only dragon so far was done with upholstery thread. The wings became too heavy for the floppy body, and I had to make the body with copper wire. It looked OK, but the work was shotty due mostly to my materials. I'm pretty convinced that it would have turned out much better, had I used the right thread or wire. Again, thanks I'd also like to recommend, if you have not seen yet, check out blog, as she has a very awesome/helpful entry on tips for thread and wire for all size beads for CDf's pattern, but I'm sure it could be applied to yours too

I read that recently

Hm... This body holds shape well enough (wings might turn out too heavy to hold straight on the body, that happens sometimes. In that case i just insert a wire to hold them up.) But that shouldnt happen unless wings are too large.

Good luck with making it

I having problems with getting the weaving tight around his right eye, or the eye on the left if you are facing him. There is a lot of slack on that one side, leaving gaping holes I've also never really attempted herringbone (aka Ndebele) before. Any advice/suggestions/tips?

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Rrkra In reply to Industrial-Pop [2010-07-23 15:24:11 +0000 UTC]

Hard to tell without seeing
There shouldn't be large holes if it's done right and thread isn't loose. Maybe you missed a bead\went through the wrong one somewhere?
Herringbone is easy, you could try making a separate strand first to get a feel of the technique.

I've made some lizards before (based on a finished one I saw somewhere), but I don't recall seeing anything 3D like this. ^_^ It looks more complicated...

Heh, yeah it can get complicated sometimes But usually not too hard, just takes a lot of time.

is it a fishing thread, a sewing thread, or something else you used? D8

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Rrkra In reply to orange-mushroom [2010-06-14 15:55:20 +0000 UTC]

Fishing line (0.10)
But i think any thread should do. It will just be a bit more soft.
