Description 11" X 14" bic pen with Gel pen on 100lb drawing paper. San Francisco, 1996. Was used as a CD cover for a music group calling themselves "DOG EAT DOGMA", which really was pretty good, or so I thought at the time. I hope they are still playing music in spite of their level of success in the cut-throte commercial entertainment world.

What does the drawing mean to me? ... The dog is a metaphor for the angel of death ... the chaotic city represents confusion, and perhaps the eroding and ambiguous human identity of our culture. The flood is the unavoidable onslaught of that which will inevitably submerge all. The fish ... Well, fish are God, are they not? They are within us and without us.

An incredible image, concept, and stunning detail, this goes without saying.
I greatly admire all of your work, Mr. v. Maximus; I have recently begun doing larger-scale drawings in ink and I was wondering if maybe you could tell me which is the most appropriate material to use when doing this kind of art?
You speak of a 100lb paper, but I do not know what this is hehe.
Many greetings,
Jayne.

Hi - I like to use a paper made by 'FABREANO' (might be misspelled) You can get different weights. 150 pound is very thick and 'elegant' paper to work with. 'Cold pressed' is a rough surface. 'Hot pressed' is a more smooth surface. It comes in sheets or pads. Check out an art store, or you can go to 'DICK BLICK' art supplies on line.

Sweet mother of God! ItΒ΄s like a mix between Lewis Carrol & that dude that made the art to Thom YorkeΒ΄s The Eraser.
Yes.

Zing: This has so much detail in it, it's so amazing! I could NEVER have enough patience to do all that with a pen! *fav*

fish are god aren't they? that really sucks because i am TERRIFIED of fish. also i fucking HATE you because this picture is so great and i am dripping with jealousy.

RSConnett In reply to wordsalad [2006-01-05 23:10:25 +0000 UTC]

No need to be jealous. Jealousy will create the object of your jealousy to become real, even if it were imagined, and not real in the beginning. (but I know you were just kidding) Death IS terrifying and it's very possible that a fish is God ... My point exactly in my painting "JESUS AS A FISHING WORM" = [link]

fish with human eyes.
right. marine chaos. that's cool.

apart from chaos you have a lot of order in the windows. i guess chaos isn't more than unknown sequences.
